Incentives to vote for your virtual pet site?

Have you ever offered your users any incentives to vote for your virtual pet site on other gaming sites? Maybe points? A trophy, perhaps? Did it help much with bringing in new users onto your virtual pet site.... We all thought it helped Zetapets grow in the beginning, but it helped a bit, but not so much if you really think about it...

What do you guys think about this?

I'd like to see it turned into a contest, where the person who votes the most consistantly, or the top 5 people who do, get a trophy at the end of the month. That's probably the only reason I'd do it unless I really, really cared for the site.

it would have to be done over the course of a few months I suppose. Maybe every 6 months or something.

I dont believe as many are now as there was a couple of years ago, I know on Daxitove we're using it lightly, but not really voicing it to the members. There's better ways to get users, I think Marapets has showed us that.

Trophies would be a good thing. I might give a lil bit of money also.

Yeah zetapets gives you a badge type thing, not sure about a trophy, but possibly.

I think if a member voted 4 times a month I would put them in for a drawing for a rare item possibly.

Badges are their equivalent to Trophies, I think.

If you vote on them, then all petsites should give you a lil something. IMHO of course.

Maybe it's just me but if the site is very good, wouldn't that make someone want to vote on their own? No idea. I like getting presents but it seems like a buy off to me.

That's true, but you do what you have to to get out there. Perhaps some of the people who join as a result of "buying off" a few users become good members and, in turn, will vote because they actually like the site.

If I were really attached to a petsite I would vote simply because I liked it (if I could be bothered at all... I'm pretty lazy :P)... although a little thank-you would be nice, I wouldn't need it as an incentive.
