I'm not sure how wide-spread this rumor is and I'm definitely unsure if this is a fact. However, if it is true, that's making Marapets a perfect target for attacks and trolls. I recall a certain user (who I'll refer to as Hannah for the sake of confidentiality) who had created multiple accounts with different personas. She used these accounts to troll the forums, keeping her main account safe from harm while her troll accounts continued to be banned. One day, Hannah created a topic to which Sirensong (this was long before she was demoted) replied with an order to stop creating multiple accounts. When asked why she couldn't simply IP ban Hannah, Siren used the excuse that family members may play Marapets. May? For one thing, staff should be capable of checking logs to see if family members do, in fact, play. And another, the only "family members" playing on the same IP address were Hannah's troll accounts. And, no, this is in no way meant to degrade Sirensong.

Yes, I am well aware that IP bans are quite easy to bypass. But do you think the average prepubescent troll will know how to do so? Of course, the more experienced ones will have no difficulties with this, but instituting IP bans will be more discouraging than a site that allows you to continually recreate account after account after account.

Eh, this just seems to be the one rumor about Marapets that gets to me the most. If anyone knows that Ian feels differently about the matter, please feel free to prove me wrong.

IP banning simply isn't very effective.

Lots of people know how to get round it and lots of other people would accidentally banned in the process.

There are lots of families who play, there are also lots of neighbours and people who live in the same area, who share IP addresses at different times.

That's very true. Also for example, hundreds of AOL members share the same IP address - one reason why many referrals don't go through on Mara.
