Rescreatu (http://www.rescreatu.com?refer=9147)

Art:
In my opinion, Rescreatu art is excellent to the extreme. Currently, the site is in the middle of revamping their artwork, and producing a V2 site, so it's not very consistent. For example, one of the revamped, yet less rare, pets (called 'creatu') looks like this:

Black Middle-Stage Otachie

While a much rarer creatu that still has its old artwork looks like this:

Unlike most petsites, Rescreatu has a very realistic style of art, and it does spoil you after a while.

Content: features, etc:
Rescreatu has so much to do, it's often confusing. However, once you settle into a niche and become comfortable with certain functions, you have more opportunity to learn about everything else.

There are three job classes: Rancher, Merchant, and Society.
Rancher class members make virtual money, called 'tu', by looking for creatu eggs (found randomly in certain areas, or at certain times of the year), hatching the egg, and naming the creatu before putting the creatu in their Rancher Shop to sell. Ranchers can have up to twenty-five creatu at a time, in order to raise them or train them, although most Ranchers choose to use most of their creatu space for 'permanent' creatu, the common term for the Rancher's personal creatu.

There are currently 36 creatu, and most of them (the ones that have been revamped) can be randomly hatched in one of 7 colors. The available colors (in order of rarity as taken from the listing order on the Rescreatu website's creatu list (http://www.rescreatu.com/creatulist.php)) are: Natural, Sepia, Cream, Black, Ginger, Silver, Blonde, Albino, Gold. Creatu purchased from the Credit Shop (a shop utilizing 'credits', a form of currency purchased through real money) can only be colored Natural, Black, Albino, or Gold. Gold can only be purchased as a dye kit, not hatched. Each creatu also has three growth stages: baby (0-14 days), middle(15-29 days), and adult(30- days).

Merchant class members earn tu by obtaining and selling items in Merchant Shops. They can also sell Creatu Eggs, which are considered items, in their shops. Merchants can have four creatu at a time.

Items come in all shapes and sizes. Some are completely worthless, such as the Rainbow Boom Box, some are very useful indeed, such as the Natural-Colored Jelly Bean, which, ironically, randomly changes the color of your creatu to any color except natural, and some will have uses in the future, such as clothing, which it is assumed will be wearable in V2. Items can be found randomly on the site, picked up from the 'Trash Isthmus', bought from other users or site NPC shops, or made through the Cooking Basin, although the Cooking Basin is an enigma to all but a handful of users, who don't really use it much anyway.

The Society class is basically obsolete. The only advantage is the ability to dig for items in a cave that is currently down. You cannot make either a Rancher or Merchant shop, and you can only have two creatu at a time. Society class members are, strangely enough, not a part of Rescreatu society at all.

Besides selling creatu and items, you can make money through games. All of Rescreatu's games are currently PHP games. That means no flash animation. There are several quests, including holiday quests that can net you trophies or rare items, and a multitude of guessing and trivia games. Some are easy, and some are hard.

Staff:
The staff members of Rescreatu are, put simply, people. There are always some you'll like, but there are usually some you'll dislike, as well. Some staff members (and I won't go into detail, I don't want to slander anyone) are more controversial. But almost all of them are friendly, personable, easy to approach, fun to talk to, and, above all, good at their jobs.

Rewards:
When you get an account on Rescreatu, you're automatically given a referral link. On the referral page (http://www.rescreatu.com/game.php?a=refer), you can view your referral link and the amount of referral points you have, along with the top ten referrers. (Patrick's always at the top.) The text on the referral page itself gives a good summation of the referral point system:

"Our referral system is slightly different than the conventional system you may have seen. Our system is point based. Points are awarded for the actual referrals, the activity of people you have referred, and the amount of referrals your referrals get."

Once you have enough referral points, you can click the link on the referral page to buy rare and exclusive items with your referral points. One of the most expensive and sought-after, the Angelic Wings, also gives you a highly coveted avatar.

Advertisements:
Rescreatu has three ads on a single page: a top banner ad, and two square ones at the bottom. Generally, they don't cause much trouble. However, there is an infamous "Wii Ad", which speaks up in a clear voice telling you, "Congratulations. You have been selected to receive a free Nintendo Wii". Usually, it scares the bajeezus out of you. It's fairly rare, though, and not very deterrent. If anything, it's cause to crack a joke in the shoutbox that's in the right sidebar of every page, provided you're over the age of 13 or have a permission form from your parents.

There are virtually never inappropriate ads on Rescreatu, but on the off chance you find one, it's recommended you send a staff member an rmail including:
*A link to the image of the ad.
*The website the ad links to.

Account upgrades:
The above mentioned Credit Shop is a staple of Rescreatu. Credits are earned through the Free Credit Offers, which are basically froms and the like that you can earn credits from filling out, or by sending money to Patrick Warner, the owner of Rescreatu. His address is posted on the site. The final option is to exchange your tu for credits at a whopping exchange rate of 100,000 tu/1 credit.

With credits, you can purchase a variety of things. One of them is a monthly "Premium Package", which includes a number of exclusive items along with a trophy, which is displayed on your profile.

Another thing to buy is a set of three "Credit Shop Creatu" eggs. There are three Credit Shop creatu: the Omni, the Kioka, and the Liyure. Their eggs alternate in and out of the Credit Shop, only one or two species are available at a time.

Other things available include four Name Tags, which allow you to change your creatu's name, three Natural Colored Jelly Beans, which change your creatu's color, four Gender Pendants, which change your creatu's gender, a Regression Ray, which is a multiple-use item that changes your creatu's age, and a class change, which allows you to change your class to one of the three job classes outlined above.

Sometimes, other features or items are put into the Credit Shop for a limited time. An example is the feature that was placed in the credit shop over a year ago that changed the color of your name to purple in the shoutbox.

Game play:
Even if there aren't any staff members on when you're confused about something, the users on Rescreatu are extremely helpful, provided you ask politely. It's very easy to feel at home on Rescreatu, as long as you're respectful and you listen to other users. Occasional spamming is, unfortunately, a reality in the Rescreatu shoutbox, basically a chatroom available to users aged 13 or higher. All the same, it's very useful when conducting light business (heavy business dealing is restricted to rmail, the message system of the site), asking questions, and generally talking to your friends. In other words, Rescreatu is a very social website. During the period when the shoutbox was down it was much harder to function, simply because there was no open torrent of people to communicate with.

Whereas Merchant class functions are fairly basic, rare and retired items sell for more than common ones and etc., success in the Rancher class requires a bit of luck and a good grasp of what sells. Names are an important feature. Creatu with names that are real words, capitalized, with no numbers sell for a considerable amount more than those with names such as "yaredda3802". This is the hardest concept for a new user to grasp. There are users whose entire goal is to find and hoard well- or uniquely-named creatu. An example is a user called "Gunmetal" (http://www.rescreatu.com/game.php?a=viewranchershop&id=24820). (Lag warning: Gunmetal's collection is famous for being so large.) Of course, rarely colored creatu or creatu that are rare in themselves are pricey as well. The most expensive creatu is rare, well-colored, with a real-word name.

I hope you consider Rescreatu, I found it a long time ago from a link on VPL, and I've been hooked ever since.

Look me up!
