View Full Version : Should retired items ever come back into the economy?
If you retire an item, shouldn't the item be retired for good? I understand if it's a rare occassion, or an holiday, but once an item is retired shouldn't the item be retired for good? I've noticed that Subeta has brought retired items back into the economy, and I believe, that's a bad thing because users who were saving the retired items could have sold them for me in the future.
So, one question to game owners & users should retired items ever come back into the economy?

With the exception or holiday items that are released once very year, I'd say no.
I think it's kinda 'cheating' people who got the items fairly out of their virtual money and effort. It would suck if you bought an item for a few million just to have it re-released a week later.
Ya, exactly, but like what if you got the item in a giveaway or something? I understand that some items might have to be re-released, but if it's an holiday, then the item doesn't need to be brought back into the economy because every holiday is different, as is every year, and so new items should be made.
Holiday items are understandable.
I've played on quite a few sites that re-release retired items.
One of the most irritating things :k

holiday items should be re released if the season comes again but other retired items i think they should be kept retired so that the value of the item may go up?

this way players that stayed in the game longer may benefit from it what do you think?
Here's how I think of this: A retired item needs to remain retired... or its not retired! When you get old, you'll retire, do you go back to work later then?
Well, I do think that it is okay to have these items released through random events, where you 'find' the item. And possibly as prizes on quests, etc.. where limited amounts are released only at random times, as who knows.. maybe those items that were out there got used up by feeding, etc. and now only such a small number exists.. or nobody is selling them or displaying them, that it almost 'doesn't exist' to the community...a good reason for them to be able to slowly and only randomly in one by one, return.
holiday items should be re released if the season comes again but other retired items i think they should be kept retired so that the value of the item may go up?
Well, I don't agree with that because once an item is retired, it shouldn't ever come back into the economy regardless of what the nature is.

When its easter, I will bring back all of the easter items that were retired but very limited in stock. New easter items will also be released and then all items retired one again.
We give away retired items in random events and as quest prizes because a lot of the retired items get used up and are also asked for in quests.
I think the older the site, the more retired for good items you can have. Such as how Neopets have their advent calender year 5 and yr 6 items etc

id say that if its only been retired for a short while a.ki.a. 1 week or so the item could come back as a random eent for 1 month or so then it should only have a few of that item relesed every year a.k.a. 6 items per year
I would suggest something similar to what Neopets does, put retired items as very rare random events to keep some in circulation.
No no no! I've played Subeta since day 1 (from reset) and they hand out old retired items as though they are common r40 items. It is EXTREMELY frustrating when you A) try and sell an item for more after holding onto it for a good year B) Buying an item at a inflated price, only to see the item shoot straight back down. It also puts 0 confidence in trying to make an investment in items. This is one thing Ichumon WILL not be doing, and thats rereleasing retired items :)

Thank goodness, Ice. XD
I don't invest in items on Subeta because of that. I've seen them rerelease items that don't need to be rereleased, like the Eisregen. :/
If it's an item required in collections, I understand that. But anything else? Why would they need to be released again?

My view on retired, holiday, and event items is very straight forward. All items need to be kept in circulation, but you have to control your circulation in such a way that users don't get too many of a rare item because this makes the item worthless and collection of it has become wasted time once it's number of owners increase.
Holiday items are safe just being released once a year, but you shouldn't release the same items every year. You should have like a couple of items that you commonly release during every holiday in combination of a few new items that will only come in a 1 time release. You can administer holiday items to be obtainable by holiday events and such. For the items that you only have as a one time release, you really do want to keep them in circulation though, so what you do is you slap them into a random event at a chance of being obtained as 1 to 1,000,000.
Retired items are simple. You make an item and after about 5~12 months of having it public, you retire it and make it obtainable in unique ways like quests, events, and creation that are very hard. Keep in mind, you don't want to retire items that are to deal with maintaining your pet unless it's a special reason behind it.
I don't think so. What would be the point of retiring items if you're going to bring them back?

Bringing back retired items hurts the economy and makes people mad. (was anyone around when they brought back the g-pin? That was a big yelling match at gaia) They may have brought it back for the gambino vs. helson thing, but it made everyone but the people who didn't have the pin very very angery. XD

I kind of like having retired items, but it makes sense for a couple to come back in the future. =)

I think it's fine as long as this isn't often.
If it's a holiday, I think you should release new content though.
