When I first started to learn PHP, what helped was reading every little detail in tutorials over and over again until I understood. Also, just jump right in and test stuff out. Take it one step at a time though, and start at the basics.

I think there was a topic here about that:

You need to have a webserver with PHP installed. Most webhosts already have PHP installed though, so I would just find a cheap host to test stuff with.
EDIT Also, I'm guessing your trying to learn PHP xD
Buy a book. Books are usually better because they've been proofread and they help explain things much better than online tutorials.

Do you have a place to test PHP scripts? You can use WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com/en/) to install the necessary components to a basic webserver on your own computer.

I'd take a course, it's easy to get them at schools

Can I suggest reading my tutorial(s) I wrote? If you want I can give you a link to it, I posted the first one to my tutorial site, I can post my other two or one... can't remember if I completed the third one, but I know I did the second one already
