View Full Version : Buying the domain early

I am thinking of buying my domain name fairly early on and having a 'teaser' page. (like several new petsites do already) The only thing is I don't have any money right now (although I'm going to be doing art commissions soon) and my dad is pretty apprehensive about the whole deal. Do you think it would be a big benefit to buy the domain name now? I'm hoping to have the site working some time this year, although there's no date set yet. I want to make sure that nobody has a chance to steal the name, and that everyone will know about the site ahead of time so I can max the amount of people who join initially.

Buy it the domain name. They cost like $5 and probably cheaper some other places.

I would probably buy it from 1and1.com since they are pretty cheap and seem to have good service. My mom has a domain name there.

I persoanlly don't see the point of buying it early, you are just spending more of your own money...I say go free sites then going live you go domain

Hmm, maybe. I never thought of that very much really. Well, I sortof thought about it, but didn't consider it.

I'd say go for it. A teaser could help somewhat, and start up hype for your website, but be prepared for the hype to go away if updates aren't posted and such.

My dad doesn't want to have to buy the domain until the site's working. So, I'd say I'll go in between the two ideas. Buy the domain a little bit before I open but not too soon.
