I've been thinking long and hard about the possibility of bringing an iPetsite directory listing onto Virtualpetlist. I believe it could help us out a bit by bringing in more Ipetsites, and more content, which Virtualpetlist strives to bring the best out of content...

The iPetsite directory would be a branch off of the virtual pet sites (http://www.virtualpetlist.com/virtual-pet-sites.php) directory, which already has 3 other directories in its branch: virtual pet art (http://www.virtualpetlist.com/virtualpet-art.php), dead virtual pet sites (http://www.virtualpetlist.com/dead-virtual-pet-sites.php) and gaming fansites (http://www.virtualpetlist.com/fansites.php).

What do you guys think about this?

I think it would be a good idea kinda sorta.

What I mean is, I wouldn't put up the small Ipetsite petsites that have no members. There are quite a few that do have members tho. I'd add these to the list.

Ya, that's what I was thinking about, but what if the iPetsite is new and is just starting out? Should it be added to the list?

I would say yes...if the member that started it is actively working on the site. If they're just trying to make one, then do nothing with it, then definately not.

Exactly, that's a great point. Right now, I think the idea of the directory should be more of an idea until we see where everyone stands on this issue because it can be done, and I will introduce it. I'm not sure if the iPetsites industry is growing at a rapid pace or not, but if it is, then that's more content that VPL will be offering to its users.

You might also think about epetsite, or is that the same thing? I know they are two different websites...

They are two different websites, but I'm not sure if it's owned by the same people or company, so I really don't know. There's a lot of pre-made pet site scripts out there right now, but iPetsite seems to owning the market share so to say.

ipetsite still exists?! haha if you want to make one go for it... i dont see the point however.

How is it dead if new sites are still being created and the software is still being used?

Jake

i never said they were dead.. the sites are just pointless... they are the same pets a zillion times over.

I'm sorry to disagree with you but that's just not true.

Some of the petsites on ipetsite have taken off the "generic" animals that are provided and have their own animals up.

Granted these are the petsites that have like 20 members or more, but still they are not all the pets that ipetsites provides you, so I think that's kinda cool.

Some of the art on the sites is really nice and inventive also. (I had to peek and see what different ones had to offer. ~chuckle~)

I personally would love an ipetsite directory, but I want to add that while many ipetsites are great and creative, it's unlikely that any will ever rise to the level of large paid sites. The biggest one is KaiPets (and it was actually closed due to a glitch). I'm not saying it's not possible, but I doubt any Ipetsites will ever become as big as, say, Rescreatu.

So while I agree with Fly that Ipetsites are not all the same--and I am in no way understating the tremendous task of running one--I wouldn't expect any of them to become very famous.

I think there was a petsite started that was "famous". It had the games of ipetsite anyhow lol. It was one that is now closed and opening as a second edition? I think that's what you call it.

Anyhow the name of it was Chibipaws I think. I was a member and it had quite a few members, and broke totally (well almost totally considering it had some of the games, etc.) away from ipetsite.

Was it monopets by any chance?

I dunno about monopets, but didn't Chibipaws have that tomato game and the 2 other games that ipetsite has?

The owner on these boards is jlp or something like that with numbers behind his name. I seen hiim post not too long ago wanting programmers for money.

Old age is affecting me lol! I can't remember dang me!

I'm not sure, but they could have. I know monopets and chibifriends were part of the creation of Ipetsite, since it was owned by Michael Plasse (owned Monopets and chibifriends).

Well, it depends on what you call "famous". I just meant that I doubt there will ever be an Ipetsite that's as ionic as Rescreatu or anything, let alone Neopets. But...who knows?

Cpvr, did you ever decide that you were going to do this or not?

Only the greatest and the biggest ipetsite created petsites should make the list. Other wise you will get 50 broken pages before you find a good one.

Fly

I agree with you. I said that earlier lol.

More like 200 broken pages . Someone got my password and basically ruined my ipetsite, which was actually getting somewhere (I think it's because I accidently used the same password for another ipetsite. Still can't believe how stupid I was). So now Bioni is in the ranks of the living dead.

Exactly, and now I realize it's a bad idea unless we have a true iPetsite that has branched away from its original version.

Monopets was one of the first imitation sites to follow neopets, it had a very strong community. I was in charge of the "Monopets Police Department".

About a year and a half into the game, Mike was selling duplicates of Monopets that would be hosted on his site, no one bought the plans as they where to expensive. After a while Monopets started to die and he made iPetsite which was coded from scratch.

Monopets and iPetsite used different scripts. Monopets was actually pretty advanced and had some very unique features. It has been down for about 3 and half years now... I'm still awaiting it's return.

I think it is a great idea. I have an ipetsite website myself, and it is www.ipetsite.com/petworld

Fly

So do you plan on breaking away from ipetsite at any time in the future EmaeC?

What about having a listing here on the forum for Ipetsites so it can be seperated from the main site of Virtual pet list (http://www.virtualpetlist.com)?

Ya, we will on the new VPL, but it'll be on threads - and not its own directory.
