My daughter Shannon has decided she'd like to build a petsite. She wants it to "automatically" update itself. It's just for her children, and she really doesn't want anyone to join it (Gawd!).

I know there are scripts that update themselves, I don't remember what they're called tho. :p

Where do I tell her to look for them at? Do they have pets with them? What exactly do they "update"? How long do they update for? Can you add your own pets to them? (Jesse would like a monkey pet) How hard is it to add pets to them?

Automatically what? XD

Nothing on the internet is truly automatic. Someone has to waste their time making codes and testing it and making sure it running properly, and when it is that script is always relying on other scripts. So basically, I don't understand what she wants XD XD XD

Do you mean she just puts something in a form on a page and it puts it on the site for her? O_O That is a custom control pannel. That can be hard to do, but I have known people to do it for free. xP

I had to go back on the forums and check the name. It's a Kronik script is what she's wanting.

They supposidly automatically update different things, unless I'm totally reading it wrong....

Apparantly alot of people use them.

Meh, they're overrated if you ask me...

Kronik scripts and cron jobs are not the same thing. Kronik scripts are actual scripts that you can (or could...not sure if they are available to buy anymore or not) and cron jobs are like scheduled events that occur when you tell them to. Such events could be like shop restocks or the lottery being drawn every Friday at 7 PM on the nose.

So Kronik scripts are no longer available?

Cron jobs would go along with the Kronik scripts right?

Or can you program the Kronik scripts to do the cron job?

Kronik is super easy to hack, and if your gonna make any type of site some dude may want to hack, don't use them.

Cron jobs = never heard of it.

It comes with some hosting plans, all they do is may a specified event occur at a specific time daily, whether give points, restart a once-a-day event, etc. Like Neopets Coltzan's Shrine, that's a scheduled event and probably runs off Cron jobs, Rescreatu's Lottery, Even some things on forums run off it like rebuild tasks, but not all, only some things will run off it, like some modifications for forums.

Basically, Cron Jobs can be accessed by Cpanel. You just set it to activate a script(e.g a php page) every so often. You can do it every several minutes, everyday or once a week. It's up to you. I use them alot, and there great!

Yep, I don't use them, cause I don't know how to set them up good, but probably could learn, never took the time to learn the how to.

It sounds to me like IPetsite or something similar. Something where you run your own petsite but others develop it and keep updating it.

Ipetsite is pretty glitchy :/. There's a site called ponypaws where you can start your own sim breeding game, but that's different from a petsite.

And ipetsite doesn't even update itself, you actually have to restock the shops by hand.

I tried Ipetsite as a tester for her and it's pfft! Don't work at all. If the scripts were good, I was going to buy them, but they suck badly.

I'm sorry. Before, there was Operational Pet Game, which one was the best pet site software, but now you just have iPetsite and a few others, but I haven't heard much about them yet.
