I get this question a lot - and I'm pretty sure a lot of people are curious as to when they should start placing advertisements on their pet site, so here goes nothin.

You should start to place advertisements on your pet site - once it starts receive enough traffic (like 1,000 daily unique visitors) and produces at least 10,000 daily pageviews, or you can be like me and place advertisements as soon as you start developing your pet site (well, I do develop websites, not pet sites), so I'm different.

Okay, so you can go with Google adsense (https://www.google.com/adsense/g-app-single-1?hl=en_US&sourceid=aso&subid=ww-en_US-et-ads-r3_b_signbtn&medium=link) for starters - and once you have an account, you can run the ads on any sites that comply with their terms.

Where should the ads be placed?
Well, you don't want to annoy the users do you? A good spot if you're using ad links would be in your navigation and if you're using a skyscraper, then on the right or left.

Who are the major CPM companies?
I'm not really involved with the major CPM companies, but the ones that I know of are:
http://www.valueclickmedia.com/Publishers.shtml
http://www.burstmedia.com/
http://www.casalemedia.com/
http://www.tribalfusion.com/SmartPublishers/requirements.html

Remember, the more pageviews your pet site receives, the more chance you have of getting accepted into a major CPM company.

So, if you have any questions for when you should start to monetize your pet site, then be sure to ask!
