View Full Version : Marapets, how come it hasn't been hit by the press yet?
I've been watching Marapets for a very long time, and was once a very active user, but now I'm just a supporter - and watching Marapets grow very fast, and blowing by all the competition... However, I've been thinking a lot lately and I was curious as to why Marapets has never been hit by the press yet, which means, the newspaper and such... Not only has Marapets been open for about 3 years now, it's gaining ground, and is about to smash about 2 million members...
Which is crazy because, it usually has over 2,000 - 3,000 members on at all time, and yet it doesn't receive any exposure from the press... Does anyone else notice this too?
If it has, what magazines and such has it had an article in?
I've noticed this also. It's a bit puzzling.
I think if it was whispered a bit to the press, then it might gain some attention from the media.
It's a virtual pet site for crying out loud.
What's there to talk about?
"Now we present you with a website that features virtual pets! Children can now feed their virtual pet and play with it."
Yeah, real smart. Dickhead.
Excuse me Riko, but Neopets has been in the press.
You have anger issues that you need to resolve.
I'm not sure what his problem(s) were, but he has received a 7 day banning. So, is anyone puzzled by this as well? Marapets is growing so fast, and yet there's no attention coming from the media.

Obviously to the media, the only pet site worth mentioning is backed by a multi-billion dollar corperation :p

I wouldn't expect any major press coverage except some home town news stations asking for an interview.

I think it should've by now. I mean Ian says it makes over x,xxx, xxx and he is only 19. That should get some coverage. It may because he stays away from the press? Thinks he's to good for them? lol...You would think if they were making over x,xxx, xxx they'd do some more advertising like commercials and stuff. Oh well.
I heard that he claims to make that much also. he also says 98% of it goes back towards the website. Well, first of all even with the adds I can't see him making that much (in total). Secondly, I can't see him re-spending that much either.

very true since he says servers only cost $20k. mara's are isn't worth anything barely so I dunno what he could spend it on.

Well, with the amount of visitors and pageviews that Marapets receives, then I can't find a reason why it shouldn't be making at least $500 a day. It does have CPM advertisements, as well as Google adsense running on the website. I'm not known to make assumptions, so I'm not going to, but whatever Marapets makes - it's all flushed back into the game itself from flash games to advertising campaigns. Ian sometimes launches little advertising campaigns from time to time using Google adwords. There's a lot of things that we don't notice that Ian does with Marapets, but if you look hard enough, you can find out where a lot of the money goes.
