This is a continuance of Part 1. Omitting Mandatory Parameters Some parameters are mandatory, and some aren't. This is something you have to consider when writing your own functions. PHP Code: // calling function with 3 mandatory parameters $get = getID( $username, $userlevel ); // third parameter is to return the ID with link to profile or not. It is omitted, and will produce an error. Parameters can be made optional, when creating the function. ...

PHP Security (Virtual Pet Sites) [Top Mistakes PHP Programmers Make - Previous Article] Hello! I'm glad you've somehow found your way to this post. While this article is primarily targeted at programmers, there are parts that could address anyone - from a site owner to a site user. My primary goal is to teach you something you didn't already know, and by doing so, raise the general security of all virtual pet sites. If you end up learning something ...

Ever wonder if your site looks good enough to get newbies to join? Wonder how they would think of your site, just from what they can see that you allow them to? Well I decided to look at random petsites from a newbie's point of view when looking for a new site to join. The site will be graded by: -Presentation -Art -Content -Overall Scores are graded between 1 for bad and 5 for great. There will be no favoritism in these grades. So ...
With all the debates going on at VPL, I just want to put in a few of my own opinions of the matter - and no, I will not call the debates "drama", for personal reasons. I will be in no ways bashing particular users or sites - and I will be looking at the problem (word used loosely here) from a third-person view. 1. Respect - deserving respect, and customer service. While it's quite clear many of us knows that customer service is the key to a successful site ...
1. If your art sucks, don't try to play it up like it's the best shit ever. I don't care that your artist spent 150 hours on three items, if they look like garbage, they're bringing down the whole quality of the site. I'm not saying fire all the artists you don't like, but don't hire someone just because they're cheap and work quickly. 2. Please please PLEASE invest in a high quality layout, and/or permanent staff member that is a graphic designer. You would not believe how many petsites ...
Keep in mind that in reality not all users fit in one sole stereotype or display traits associated with those stereotypes.Traits observed in one stereotype may also be observed in other types. Ranges go between extreme and the opposite. This guide could always use a bit more information. If you can also help me out by pointing out mistakes and errors content related or grammatical I would be glad. Please message me then. If you have the time please check out the topic I made in preparation to this ...

I know this blog is a few days off, but I wanted to write something new on my blog. Two years ago, we brought Virtualpetlist back from the dead. We came back in January with a big vengence to show the world what we're capable of doing. We also wanted to show everyone that we still care and had passion for the virtual pets community market. We knew when we started virtualpetlist, there were people with similar interests to us founders. EBK and I didn't know right ...
Okay, maybe I'm taking this post a little too deeply, but Corsair started this one thread about how there are some sites that have been around for years and yet in that time haven't accomplished a whole lot, and it was really thought-provoking. He/she talked about how those sorts of sites need to re-think how they run, and maybe even hire new staff. Anyways, I didn't want to post on the thread because I felt it didn't fit with the original intent of the thread. You can read about it here: ...
Lately it seems like a lot of people are posting about their new sites they want to develop, or are already developing, and I see a lot of flaws that definitely turn me off from their site before it's even close to being done. So I feel like I needed to make a post trying to help people the best I can. If something here offends you, please understand that I'm really only trying to help. Before you even gets started: Have either a skill or MONEY. This, for some reason, seems to be ...

After over 23 years living with my parents, I recently moved into my own apartment with my girlfriend. So far, I love it because the extra freedom is amazing and my girl actually cooks for me now. I miss a few things since I don't live with my family anymore and that's my conversations with my mother, siblings and my little brother especially. I'm going to miss them growing up, but I'm going to continue to stay in touch with them and try to see them every so often. I'm quite proud ...
You can do it, just get yourself organized. More late night thoughts from Slash. Oh joy... So many of you seem to be running in place, trying to develop a petsite but never quite getting anywhere. I think you can succeed. I think the biggest challenge to a creative person is getting themselves motivated and on track with their activities. Whether it's writing a novel or planning a virtual pet site or conceptualizing a business, a good portion of us never seem ...
OH BUT I CAN'T PAY YOU UNTIL THE SITE IS UP AND IT STARTS MAKING MONEY, BUT THEN I CAN PAY YOU BECAUSE THEN I'LL BE MAKING MONEY. SITE NEEDS: - PET SITE STUFF. LOOK AT OTHER SITES TO SEE WHAT I NEED I mean, I see these topics all the time and I totally just don't understand what planet these people live on. Why would someone with programming/art/management/etc skills work for free when the owner has none of those skills. Why would they do that when they can just ...
