Below is a rant since I need to rant because I'm very pissed at the moment. I'm posting it here just so it's at a place where the people involved won't see it. But as for why here in general? Well, I guess I just want some hugs.

I will get to what the title means in a bit.

SO, it all began a couple weeks back. I was sent an email by a relative who asked if I wouldn't mind doing a banner job for a company he works at. I asked some details about it and it all seemed good. I was even getting paid a great deal of money for it (great deal for me since I've never been commissioned for this much for one job before.) The banner itself was VERY large and ate up a lot of my CPU. He sent me his idea of the banner and I got to work. I finished the trial version sent it in, got a few revisions, did those, got more, etc. This cycle went on for a while. (One particular revision took a long time to do which they ended up trashing and wanting something 100x more simplistic, and in my opinion, ugly. Once I gave them back, they decided it was not a good idea and I had to fix it again.)

After about a week passed they told me they needed a banner by a certain date so they could print it in time to use it. Around this time I had a lot of tests/exams so it was difficult but I ended up finishing. I sent it in. Only now did the boss get involved and stated how a lot of things were wrong. I fixed all of those, sent it back. They then changed the date to the latest being yesterday and gave me more changes. I did all of that, sent it back. (I didn't count, but I doubt the number of times I mentioned I redid the banner is accurate in this blog. If you double it that's probably more accurate.)

This morning I wake up to an email and text message from said relative asking for the /vector/ format of the image and they needed it NOW.

In case the emphasis wasn't enough. First of all, they never once mentioned to me they wanted it to be in vector format from the start. Second of all, I don't work with vectors, never have. I don't even own the program needed for making vectors (granted, PS, but Illustrator would be better.)

This goes back to what the title is about. For those of you who don't know the difference, it's like asking me to build a house then instead saying that you wanted a boat.

Unlike houses/boats, I /could/ convert the image for them, but I simply don't have the time. I have school and homework and not to mention all this stress and crap piled on now knowing I did all that work for basically nothing. I ended up managing to get a friend to do the job and they said they'll do it thus my relative's ass is saved.

Me on the other hand, while happy my friend got the job and will get paid, am left with a useless banner that won't be used, a boat-load of stress and an empty PayPal account. (Of course the relative said he'd make it up to me, though not sure how worth it it'll be for all of this... I'm not even sure anything would be worth it in compensation for all of this.)

POINT BEING (which could be considered another reason why I'm posting this here):

If you want a commission, PLAN WHAT YOU WANT FIRST! Give all the details to the person BEFORE you have them start the job. I probably wouldn't be nearly as angry/upset had they given me a better idea for the banner from the start, or at least involved the person that it was going to be for from the start. Not to mention the whole "vector" crap >:/

Okay, I'm done. I ranted. I'm off to do homework now -_-;;

PS I didn't reread this like I normally do my posts so I have no doubt there will be mistakes.
