Having acid reflux disease sucks.....

Rate this Entry
For almost 2 weeks now I've been plagued with a flare up of my acid reflux disease. It's been absolutely heck for me trying to deal with it. But now with monitoring my diet, what I drink, and taking anti-acids, it's very slowly getting under control. I'm going to be on sporadically. I've been going to bed earlier to try and get some more rest. And all of that dealing with a 9 and a half month baby, it hasn't been easy.

I've been having acid reflux for years now. I went to see a medical doctor last week or two weeks ago, and she was great to me. She gave me Protonix 40 MG, twice daily and I barely get heart burn now. It's also about what pills you take for it. @SpottyWolf

@cpvr - I was diagnosed with acid reflux at age 16. So I've dealt with it for almost 15 years now. I hate having flare ups. We've raised the headboard of my bed, I've doubled up on pillows, and I found that ranitidine tablets every other day seems to be helping out alot. Sierra Mist or Sprite is what i drink now aside from water. The carbonation of the soda seems to help with the indigestion. Tums are my best friend right now!

I now seem to eat like a bird, pecking at my food during the day in small amounts rather than huge meals seems to be helping as well. Fresh fruits compose the main part of my diet, a good multi grain cereal without the milk at breakfast helps settle my stomach in them mornings. And I no longer drink coffee because the acidity makes my tummy really upset! Dinners are normal, and as far as late night snacks, those are cute out completely. If I do get hungry late at nights its saltines.

I just thank God that with me being upset with acid reflux that it hasn't hurt my daughter since she's still breast feeding. She's got quite a healthy appetite!

Sprite as always been my best friends in terms of keeping the acid reflux down. What do your doctors have you on though? When my mom was pregnant with my baby brother, she was taking Dexilant. I got my acid reflux problem from her. I always keep my bed up and my pillows behind my back because one of the nurses and doctors told me to do that when I was in the hospital before. She said its best to stay up so the acid doesn't stay up and flows down.

I won't give up my coffee though. Saltines premiums or the original?
Ya, I don't think the acid reflux has a problem with babies that breast feed though. You should see a doctor and get some daily meds to help you out. I take Ranitidine as well, that's Zantax 75 but the generic right?

@cpvr - Yep, it's the Equate (Walmart) brand. For 65 pills it's like $4. So its affordable. I don't have a doctor yet, but I'm looking for one.

Find a medical doctor, those are the best. I'm sure they'll give you something strong for heart-burn like I have. It's a tough cookie because I love spicey foods but I can't eat them often. I'm going to try to eat some though in a week or two when the protonix has been in my system for a couple weeks.

One thing that I have, you might have it as well, is the hernia that causes heart burn.

I have acid reflux as well, though mine isn't that bad.
Several months ago I had really bad stomach pains that lead to other things putting me in discomfort. When I went to the doctor for a physical for surgery I asked him about it and he told me to get some Prilosec OTC because basic acid reducers weren't doing a thing. And after taking the 14 day long pills it cleared up and I haven't had any problem since.
Mine really bothered me because my stomach would hurt so in turn I wouldn't eat and that just made it all worse. I know better now, gotta make sure I eat to keep it under control.
I hope it gets better for you as well.

@Afterlife - Today has been the first day where I haven't had any severe cramps or felt like throwing up. SO I'm hoping I'm on the upswing of this now. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I've had acid reflux since I was a teen (37 now). I take a prescription which really helps and I rarely have heartburn anymore. I do stock up on Pepcid AC just in case!
