But I actually wonder how many of you guys actually use the shortcuts put together on Photoshop.

Here's a list of all the shortcuts I've come to use for my art and at my previous photo editing job.
No idea if this would help anyone, but it's certainly sped up my workflow.
Let me know if I said something confusing on this quick guide. I'll explain it intensely. (probably)

And literally I mean anything.
It frustrates me when artists can't draw a certain subject. (e.g. human artists vs animal artists)
It takes the same skill to draw both, the same eye, the same artistic sense. To me, when artists close themselves off to one subject it means they're just too lazy to learn it.
So here.

Learn how to draw everything because some chinese guy finally made a tutorial about it.

I'm sure some of you may have seen me post in help threads and I always say to use references and study photos/life. And I'm sure the thing going through most people's heads (even mine a lot of the time) is "Nah I don't feel like using references today it takes too much time and I don't want to draw realistically".
And that is what keeps you a human artist, or an animal artist.
Or an item artist.
Or a pet artist.
Or a background artist.
Or a _____ artist.

Just be an artist. All of this applies for cell-shading or painting or sketching or colored pencils or markers or any medium as well.

Crappy Tutorial: Recolor Trick

[TR]
[TD]NOTICE: I'm not a "real" artist so I'm not claiming to be a expert. Remember kids it's not what you use to create art it's how you use it!...

NOTICE: I'm not a "real" artist so I'm not claiming to be a expert. Remember kids it's not what you use to create art it's how you use it!

Lastly, I do not think this can be effective for most sites but it's still useful. Play around with it.

Intro

If your new to making pets and items and are having a spot of trouble with recoloring I learned a trip to help you out. I found this works with both SAI and Photoshop. I'm going to show you the basics since you maybe new to paint programs.

First off draw and line your pet. However when you shade do it all one one layer, combine them or or place layer in a folder. In most cases gray works best for the base. The shade can be any thing really to give the desired effect.

This is what it looks like in this example. I like heavy contrast with one shade layer but you can shade it however you want it.

Create a layer above it set it to overlay and clip it to the layer below. Clipping will let you recolor it what ever as long as you do not merge it with the back ground layer. (it happens some times)

Now all you have to do is use fill to make it what ever color you like.

This is basic example of just filling it with yellow

Note: You can (and should) slit different parts maybe in to folder and use the same trick to color only certain parts. Case in point repeat the above with just the mane so you can recolor just that part. Make sure to label every thing

End

So there you go you can recolor seconds instead of 15 fricking minutes. Yes I know can also lock the opacity it's up you to pick which is easiest. Remember this is just the basics.

Okay it looks shit because I can't draw on a computer that well... But.

today in class, put teacher said "make a flash animation" and that's all. He gave no instruction whatsoever. Me, not ever really exploring flash was thinking aw damn...

But somehow, I managed to get a whole heap of key frame animations and motion paths to work, and I ended up making a guy getting changed by a (rotating!) beach ball. The person had a running animation, and moved along a path. The ball also rotated and moved. There was a bird in the background that flapped its wings while it flew. AND! The background moved with the animation but at a slightly different speed, so it looked really cool.

i forgot to mention the person changes speed throughout the animation too. I'm so proud :')

Instead of being a good student and doing my STATS homework, I decided take a short break to design something small. You know, just to keep me sane and to prepare for a long night of studying...

Welp. Something small kinda blew up into something huge (why does that sound wrong to me.. trololololol). I started out with just playing around with fonts and colours and next thing I knew I started adding shapes. One thing lead to another..

Anyway, two hours later this happened:

Bahhaa. It’s just a conceptttttt =________=’’. The whole time I was thinking, “Yeah.. if I owned a site, what would I want it to look like?” What I made doesn’t really come close to what I imagined (WHY BRAIN WHY) but I like what I ended up with. Images I used are ones I drew (which now belong to their respective owners /disclaimer) except for the hummingbirds, they ain’t mine.

Ugh. If you find spelling mistakes, sorry~ I forgot to spellcheck D: And the "Login" button is non-existent because I forgot about it. :D But yeah, what do you guys think? Should I keep developing it (as in design wise, dunno if I can find the time to actually code this)?

UGH. Why can’t I force myself to do my homeworkrkrkakskldasld. Okeynvm time to work on this biiiish. 4 hours left until deadline. 8D. And I have a test on the 15th T____T LOL. BAH. ))))))))))):

Oh, also, what up VPL. Haven’t been here in almost a year (except for some quick, silent visits, hehe).

Hey, hey! Since you guys got a little preview of Otherworlde, I thought I'd share with you some more information about it.

Yes, there are typos in our mockup /cry The artist is not a native English speaker

Otherworlde is basically a website for roleplaying original characters in a dark magic academy setting. You create a character (that's paranormal or supernatural) and enroll them into the academy like you would enroll in university.

Here's one of my first year students. He's an incubus and taking one course this quarter.

The main focus of the site is to encourage people to be creative through our immersive atmosphere. Ideally, when you sign up, create your character, and start roleplaying them with other members, you'll want to draw and write about them! It's generally understood that the more you practice a craft, the better you'll get at it, so having the excitement and motivation to draw and write will help you improve by leaps and bounds as you move from class to class.

Speaking of classes, there are eight divisions within Otherworlde, each staffed by a person:

Magical Linguistics
Medicine
Shamanism
Necromancy
Hexing
Shadowmancy
Potionmaking
Elementalism
The campus is dangerous, but you're brave... right?

Each department has a number of courses for the four student levels -- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. Think of it like university, where you're a freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior. What courses you want to take depends on your (and your character's) interests.

Maybe you fancy ...
LIN 102 - Introduction to Written Magic (Sigils)?
SHM 103 - Introduction to Spirit Manipulation?
ELM 103 - Practical Elementalism?
SHD 102 - Aggressive Shadowmancy?
PTS 102 - Introduction to Potion Herbs ?

It all depends on your interests.

Each course lasts three months (which is considered a year in roleplaying time), and has three assignments. You have to complete two assignments to pass the course.
Let's look at SHD 102 - Aggressive Shadowmancy, for instance:
MDrake says:

Shadow tendrils are certainly this professor's favorite type of aggressive shadowmancy, because they are slithering along the ground like black snakes as he moves onto the next subject. "It is likely you won't be able to form your own shadow tendrils yet, but within a month you shall be able to. In the meantime, muscle memory is important for being able to control your own shadows."

A single, barbed shadow tendril is curling around each student. While they're not constricting very hard, the barbs are pressing uncomfortably into the students' skin, which seems to be causing some squirming. A glare from the professor has the students tense and force themselves not to move. A moment later, each student has a sensation like gaining an extra limb as the shadow tendril's control is passed to the student. Some of them are already starting to flick the end of the shadow tendril back and forth like tails.

"I have given each of you a thorned shadow tendril. You are expected to get used to the feel of controlling one. It will aid you in producing your own for next month's assignment. But your actual task shall be to hurt someone with your new shadow tendril. I do not care who. These are barbed for a reason, and the sooner you get over your fears of harming others, the better you shall be."

As the character completes assignments and passes courses, they'll be promoted to the next level, gain complex skills, perhaps get a job as the student teacher of their favorite department... and maybe even earn a degree and teach a department of their own!

Developing Features
+ Academy course system - take classes and earn grades!
+ Character system - maintain a bio, keep track of inter-character relationships, and get notices when others include your character in their art/writing
+ Chatrooms and Forums - for roleplaying, of course!
+ Tournament system - a tournament based around art and writing where characters go head to head in battle!
+ Customized Gallery system - for uploading and sharing OW-related artwork with fellow roleplayers
+ Character avatar system - customize your character with predrawn artwork, or upload your own character if you fancy drawing
+ Libraries and Books - find rare books to read to your character and increase their knowledge. You can even learn hexes to make other characters' days miserable, nyahahaha!
+ Dorm rooms - find a room mate, and decorate your dorm room with them!

OW has been in development for about a month now, but already has approximately a year of lore and mythos behind the academy and plenty of well-established characters for others to meet.

And if I were to sell, would anyone be interested or do you think it wouldn't work/sell?
It is really fun to make and I can add charms and stuff :)
Colors range from browns/greens/whites/blues in many different shades.

I can also upload/post more examples.
