I was out for about 2.5 weeks, but I think it could be a lot less if you take your pain killers and don't move around much. I couldn't stand the feeling of being on Vicodin and stopped taking it, which led to more restlessness, which led to a longer recovery time.
I'd rather be on all pain medications so that I can heal faster. It's really going to knock down my gym routine, but I guess its all worth it in the end. Ya, my hospital bill is going to be quite expensive when it comes. Insurance only covers 90% hospital stay for me. What type of diet were you on after the surgery?

    Re: Ever had surgery

I had a surgery when I was about six, I think. I believe the condition was angioma, but my memory could be wrong, haha. It was on my foot and nothing could touch it without it hurting so they had to remove it. The surgery really wasn't that bad, but the worst part was when it was healing, and my skin got caught on my sock. I could never forget that pain, and it was much worst than having the stitches pulled off! I remember once I ran and it opened back up, filling my shoe with blood. I don't remember it hurting, but apparently I was carried of the school bus screaming. xD

It came back about a year later, but not enough to cause a large amount of harm. I just can't rollerskate or iceskate (my foot is sensitive to anything putting pressure on the arch). There is certain types of shoes I wouldn't be able to wear, either.

My eye could have been another surgery as well, but due to the issue stemming from my autoimmune, and not my eye directly, even if my cornea is damaged and can be replaced, if there is nothing stopping my immune system from attacking my eye, it will easily scar again. It's not that bad luckily. I'm just light sensitive and have occasional moments of pain where I'll need an ice pack. I cannot see that well on that eye and it does effect my depth perception, but it's workable. When I take my dog for her walk, she has to be on the right of me, otherwise I walk wobbly and have a chance of accidentally stepping on her, which is not good.

    Re: Ever had surgery

I had my wisdom teeth out about a week ago and it SUUUCKED. My mouth is infected now in two of the spots (4 were pulled) and it is just generally sucky. BUT it's good to have them out and not have to worry about them again

I have Tourette Syndrome, and I've been considering getting Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for a few years now. It isn't approved for Tourette's, but it's still being researched so there's a big chance it will soon be approved. It's very popular for Parkinson's patients. Basically, it's where they implant something in your brain and in your shoulder, and when you turn on the device in your shoulder it sends an electrical current (I think?) to your brain that supposedly calms the tics. So, basically brain surgery xD

    We'll see!

His hernia was down below he always said his guts were in his nuts. Sorry that is graphic but I dont know any medical terminology to make it more appropriate. It happened while he was in afghanistan fighting for our freedoms. I think he said it he though it was carrying heavy packs up mountains. I know when patrolling they covered many miles a day.

His recovery for that was a long time i dont remember exactly how long.

When he had his gallbladder removed he jumped on a plane the next day to come see me in ohio from alaska and he didnt complain too much. He was a bit uncomfortable but he was able to move and didnt have to call medics or anything like with his hernia.

He was suppose to avoid heavy lifting for 8 weeks i think. Thats pretty common though i think.

Ya, that's a real tough Hernia. I'd hate to have that one.

I went to the doctor yesterday and my gallbladder is scheduled to be removed on Thursday at 10 am. They said my recovery will take two weeks - I can start using the elipitical after a week, but no hot tub, pool, sauna until the two weeks are over. I can go back to regular food after the surgery - according to the doctor so that will be great. I'm just hoping I don't gain a lot of weight during my recovery because I've been working very hard on my goal of losing 100 pounds

No worries I think you'll walk away from that with very little pain. I imagine in 3 or 4 days you'll be feeling great. I think you could probably manage to walk on a tread mill. I know elipticals really have a wide stride that might pull on you but after surgeries walking is usually encouraged so try treadmill instead?

Ya, I was thinking about what I'll be doing for exercise when I'm able to do it. I think the bike machine would be less impact than the Elipitical and the treadmill both.
You're right though. I tend to go too fast on the elipitical so that's out of the way while I'm recovering.

    Re: Ever had surgery

I've had 3 surgeries in the past year, all of them cysts >.<

The latest one was on my tailbone... Honestly, it's still there. I thought it was still healing, but there was always a painful bump and it never went away. It was kind of mutual between us (it only hurt if I poked it or sat too long, and I was fine with it then), but in the past month it's come back out and it's extremely painful. On a scale of 1 to 10 compared to last time, though, it's only like a 5 or a 6. Some days it's a 7 or 8.

But I'm too afraid to go back and get surgery again... the first two times there was a cyst in my mouth. I was knocked out and then the next time it was just numbing my gums up to get rid of a weird case of a pyrogenic granuloma. But the tailbone... ouch >_< I can't even begin to explain the pain, and I still remember a great deal of it. I'd rather be a silent sufferer than go through that again.

Wish I could say I'm done with surgeries, but I'm afraid I'll have to go back to the emergency room over the summer D:
