Which is worse, failing or never trying?

Never trying is something that I believe is pretty bad because you'll never know what your true potential is. I'll admit I stopped trying and caring about certain things while I was growing up - such as, not paying attention in class and getting in trouble, because I figured it was just too hard for me. It was a pretty bad decision and I wish I tried harder.

But failing is also a pretty big thing because I failed at certain things in my life - such as, cheating and breaking another people's hearts.

But in your opinion, which one do you think is worse? Failing or never trying?

Never trying I think is worse. But failing is part of the process. The trick is, learn from your failures/mistakes.

By far, never trying is worse. How can you learn from not doing it? As long as you take the time to figure out what was good / bad then it is for the best despite the fact that it was a failure.

Never trying. How will you know if you can do something if at you don't try?

I think never trying is worse, because if you never try you will never succeed. People that don't try anything, won't go anywhere in life.

We all know that never trying means that nothing ever changes, but failing could be pretty bad itself. D: (one might fail in saving a life or fail as a pet owner and raise a dangerous dog by mistake)

Yes, failure is pretty bad as well. Look at Myspace they failed to Facebook.

Being young makes you less inhibited over your actions, sadly. I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. You take the initiative to learn now, mostly, so I don't think you have the same attitude. But, if you wish you had tried harder in the past, don't you regret not trying hard enough..? You confuse me sometimes

But failing is also a pretty big thing because I failed at certain things in my life - such as, cheating and breaking another people's hearts.
The cheating you had a reason for. I know, lame coming from me, but your wife was really horrible to you at the time. :/ You were also very confused because a lot of social factors in your life were telling you things that made you feel ambivalent. I'm just basing these observations off what you told me. Honestly, I didn't know you at the time, so I can't say much.
The breaking people's hearts thing, though a result of your frustration and ache to reap payback, was uncalled for an unnecessary. I'm happy to see the better side of you today. That's what truly counts, I believe.

But in your opinion, which one do you think is worse? Failing or never trying?
Never trying, personally. If you try and fail, okay, just learn from your mistakes and don't repeat them. But heavens, if you continue trying to fix your failures, chances are you're just repeating mistakes. You need to exercise tact - each situation requires it.

Re: Which is worse, failing or never trying?

It's always worse to never try. I don't know about you guys but for me, if I don't try... the thought of "what if I did" really drives me insane. :<

To me, failures are also successes. You did something that may have not come out the way you think it would have, but you have learned from that experience. I remember the saying "a calm sea does not make a skilled sailor". Without failures or obstacles you don't grow as a person. Also, with these experiences, you gain more understanding and empathy. That, as a whole, improves a person's characteristics and maturity. The difference between "successful" failure and utter, complete failure is that one takes calculated risks. It's not a bad thing to try new things, but risks need to be taken into consideration. It's not a black or white topic, but the general gist I feel is that failing is indeed worse.

At least, that's what I think.

    100% agree with this.

At least, that's what I think.
And what you think is brilliant.
