no idea. i was newb back then. didnt really know what was vps. only thing i knew was train my pet and keep it fed/happy.
i acutlly got referraled from someone when i was playing neopets.
What they use oracle for a database.
omg. lol.
Did I mention that Subeta is really the best in this post? If not, well. Subeta is the best. xoxoxo
Yup, they mentioned it in issue 11 of their editorial http://www.marapets.com/editorial.php?id=11
I see, that's always nice to be referred by someone.Ian I was wondering if you have chosen beetween mara and another job yet. Because mara would not be the same without you on. ~sweet_girl89
I haven't got the choice yet. Marapets can't afford to hire me because it doesn't make any profits yet. Oracle database software is $32,000 a year and the server we bought for Oracle cost $29,500. If it does start to make a profit when the amount of players online increases then it will become my full time job for the rest of the year. If not I'll be doing part time unpaid work and get a job![]()
Why are the account upgrades there? And do you have to upgrade your account or is it optional? ~mystic00ember
Marapets is 100% free (for anyone who follows our terms & conditions) to play. Account Upgrades are there for the site to make income to pay for the very high cost for it to run. Its not cheap running all of the servers, paying for the licences for the software on it, paying a full time artist and flash game artist and paying for 2 games to be made every week. That doesn't even include the amount we spend on advertising and the cost of other things like domain names and paying for the services of some people.

Last time I was on and it was getting loads of errors was when it was Xmas time, I was only on it to get the freebie shit anyway though.
Project "Z" is currently in the making, we have our domain, pet and a few items done. We hope to enter Beta in August 2014. Stay tuned.

Wow, that is the most moronic thing I've ever heard in my life.
Also, I'm just going to say that it's probably not true. He probably looked up the most expensive software (And hardware) that he could, and said that is how much it cost to run Marapets. Not even Facebook uses Oracle, it's for seriously massive sites, and even then, is almost never really necessary.
Did I mention that Subeta is really the best in this post? If not, well. Subeta is the best. xoxoxo
Well not quite true, Facebook is too big for Oracle (for it's non-relational data) and doesn't use it for the relational parts because it was grown in an ad-hoc and incremental manner without a clear project plan at the start. But yeah, most pet sites don't really need the support that Oracle involves.
Has there been any updates on this? I talked to Ian and he said there was some server maintenance going on, but there hasn't been anything posted in the news, and I haven't checked the adult forum or anything. @Sid12192 @Sirkowskii
@Hituro Facebook also uses a whole lot of memcache servers. I remember seeing an article about how their servers were set up. It's on my twitter somewhere because I retweeted it, but I forgot to favorite it.
