Cold Water speeds up your Metabolism and other tips

This is great news for those that drink water on a daily basis, and I thought I'd pass it on for those that aren't aware.

Drinking enough water, especially cold water throughout the day, can help speed up your metabolism and aid you in your weight loss goals.
    Step 1
Drink at least two liters of water every day. That's about eight glasses, or 64 oz., of water, using 8 oz. glasses. Health care providers at the Mayo Clinic say most people need to drink two liters of water daily in order to stay well hydrated. If you are extremely active, live in a hot climate or work under hot conditions, it might be necessary for you to drink more water than that. Drinking enough water helps ensure that your body's chemical processes, such as metabolism, are able to perform efficiently.
    Step 2
Fill your glass with cold water rather than water that has reached room temperature. Your body will work to heat the cold water you drink until the temperature reaches that of the rest of the water in your body. This thermogenic process can help to increase your metabolism for a while after you drink the water. It takes energy to increase the temperature of the water. Expending energy has the added benefit of burning calories.
    Step 3
Keep the water coming throughout the day. According to weight loss expert Dr. Mark Lawrence, if you drink just three glasses of cold water throughout the day, hypothetically, you could lose two or three pounds in a year. However, if you are looking to lose weight, diet and exercise are still your best options, as there are no quick fixes when it comes to shedding excess pounds.
    Step 4
Hydrate your body with cold water so that it can metabolize foods properly. When you do not drink enough water, your body goes into a protective mode in order to retain sufficient water for your body's vital chemical processes. If this is the case, your body begins to focus on storing fluids and fuel rather than metabolizing foods and burning off excess calories.
    Step 5
Energize your body by drinking cold water. It is not uncommon to feel tired if you are not drinking at least eight glasses of water each day. When you feel lethargic, you are not likely to be as motivated to exercise. Drinking plenty of cold water will give you the energy you need for aerobic exercise, which will boost your metabolism. Another benefit of drinking cold water is that it is absorbed into the bloodstream more easily.
    Step 6
Drink a cold and refreshing glass of water before each meal. You will be less likely to eat more than you should during your meal as a result of feeling fuller and having your thirst quenched.
    Tips and Warnings
Drinking cold water alone is not enough to speed up your metabolism or make you lose weight. You need to eat a healthy diet and be physically active for optimal health and weight loss.

5 Tips to Quickly Increase Your Metabolism

The best way to lose weight is to increase your metabolism. Your metabolism manages how fast and effectively you expend energy and process food. The higher your metabolism, the more efficiently your body burns calories and the faster your lose weight. Although many factors that affect your metabolic rate, such as age and genetics, are out of your control, there are simple steps you can take to give your metabolism a much needed boost.

    1. Eat Well

Eating a well balanced diet of protein, grains, fruits and vegetables is the easiest way to jump-start your metabolism. Consuming healthy foods gives your body the fuel it needs to function properly. You expend a lot of calories digesting and breaking down proteins and complex carbohydrates, which in turn speeds up your metabolism. These foods also aid the formation and development of lean muscle mass. The more muscle mass you have, the faster you burn calories.

    2. Eat Small Meals

Instead of eating the traditional three meals a day, try eating five or six smaller meals. Make sure your mini-meals include a portion of some protein and a side of fruit or vegetables. By eating every 3 or 4 hours, you're giving your body a constant supply of food to digest. This helps keep your metabolism going throughout the day.

    3. Stay Hydrated

Your body is like an intricate machine and your metabolism is one of its many functions. It needs plenty of water to run at its optimal level. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water every day will keep your metabolic rate up and will help you shed the pounds. Also, studies indicate that drinking cold water, in particular, can temporarily increase your metabolism. Your body needs to exert energy in order to warm the liquid, and this causes a spike in your metabolism.

    4. Start a Weight Training Program

Muscle burns more calories than fat. A great way to build muscle and increase your metabolism is to incorporate weight training into your exercise regime. Weight training helps you build muscle by breaking the fiber of existing muscles. In order to rebuild and strengthen those muscles, you have to use up a lot of calories. This in turn boosts your metabolism. Supplement your weight training program with some cardio and the pounds will melt away.

    5. Get Plenty of Sleep

A good night's sleep is an essential part to any weight loss program. As you sleep, your body releases melatonin and other growth hormones that help to repair damaged muscle fiber and strengthen your metabolism. If you don't get enough rest, your body's metabolic functions don't work as well as they should. As a result, you can not process carbohydrates as well and your unused energy is stored as fat. Sleep deprivation also leads to the release of a hormone called cortisol which increases your appetite and makes it more difficult for you to lose weight. Therefore, it's important to catch your Z's. Doctors recommend between 7 and 9 hours for the average adult.

I was told that drinking cold water was bad for you and that you should drink water (and other liquids) at room temp.

    Confused now....
Project "Z" is currently in the making, we have our domain, pet and a few items done. We hope to enter Beta in August 2014. Stay tuned.

It was a sports tutor in college that told me, I can't remember the reason why its bad but I know since being told all my drinks are room temp.

Like right now I have two bottles of Fanta; Zero and Fruit Twist, sat on the floor in my living room, I never have them in the fridge.

And when I have milk, I take that out the fridge and leave it in the container for approx 30min before drinking - and then it'll be outside the fridge for about 2 hours because I'm drinking it until it goes back in again.

Same here, but I like my drinks cold. I'm one of the only adults in the house that use up all the ice. I love having a cold drink, it tastes better than drinking a warm drink.

I know I've heard the same thing previously in the past as @SpunkiSpirou. I just googled it real quick and it looks like it doesn't really matter either way, though.

Personally, I drink most everything at room temperature.

Maybe when its a boiling hot Summer day (like up to around 25 degrees) and I've been outside and I'm hot, then I'd have a cold drink. Or I used to, these days I just eat ice cream if I'm hot.
