Contest suggestion.

I was talking to @cpvr a few days ago about how to engage the community a bit more. Was thinking about organizing a singing competition, organized by a volunteer from the staff. They would pick a song for the participants to sing, and either provide a beat which all the participants would have to use, or go another way where the participants could pick one themselves, if they'd prefer to go with an acoustic version or such.

There would be a certain time span during which entries would be accepted, and after the closing of the application time, the staff would open a poll in which the entire community would unbiasedly vote for their favorite performance, and the results would only be accessible by cpvr, until they are made public at the deadline. The participants themselves would be ineligible to vote neither for their own performance or any other.

The winner would win a title, and also if this is agreed upon, all the petsites would put the song somewhere in their site linking back to VPL. The song would then be replaced by the winner of the next edition, if such are ever organized. Also, whoever wishes to offer any other prizes would be welcome to do so.

What does everybody think? Would you like to see such contest happen?

We'd love to get this one of the ground, what should the theme be of the singing contest? Let's hear your thoughts, and everything else. We don't have much of a "Theme song" for the community, so what if we ran that as one?

You mean like making an original song about something? I'm up for that, but I'm not sure how ready others would be to go this way. I suggest we'd start covering existing songs, and in future editions maybe we'd do original songs too.

Both options work for me. Creativity is a must and I'm sure our singers hear can cover some good songs, and/or write their own if possible.
