Referral contests to attract new people - have you ran one

Well, I know Ian used to run a ton of referral contests on Marapets in the past, but he hasn't done any since - but then again, why haven't pet game owners ran one now?

Like you could giveaway an expensive cash shop item, a limited edition pet, etc, anything is possible.

What do you guys think? Should some of the major pet games run a referral contest? Its a good way to get people talking about your pet site on the web - remember, publicity is publicity.

I haven't ran one yet, but I am planning on running one in the near future. I am thinking of at least giving out virtual cash as prize, and limited edition items.

Although I haven't though everything out completely, I'm currently thinking of a reasonable amount of virtual currency as prize (keeping the current economy of my vps in mind) and I'll be creating limited edition wearable items for the pets. =)
