Anyone can compete against anyone. Especially iff you set your mind to i. In order for "other" pet sites to really compete against Neopets, there needs to be a lot of features, and games, that keep people coming back. People still play Neopets because of the fact its very content-rich, you can't really say that about our current pet sites, only Powerpets, Subeta, and Marapets. All three of them are content-rich games, and really, all 3 of them can compete against Neopets because the rules are strict and users are afraid to post on the forums, in fear of getting banned.

So, if you target them, the best way you know how, you can attract their crowd, and if they're impressed with your game, they'll tell their friends, thus, creating a catch-22 and making your game bigger.
