To Anyone Who Uses Paypal! Warning on a Rule!

It has come to my attention that users are adding the Paypal surcharge to their prices and telling users they have to pay it in order to get the goods. THIS is NOT ALLOWED by the rules of Paypal and you can be reported on it.

This is a quote from the Paypal site itself.

4.6 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions.

So for now on, if I see any sales board have the rule they must pay the paypal surcharge or get a report that you are telling your customers via pm to do so, it will be dealt with by a temporary ban. Continue to do this will result in a Permanent Ban.



Any user who is trying to buy a product and is told to pay the fees, please report it to a mod right away. This will not be allowed anymore. Thank you for your time.

I've never charged a fee because of this rule.
It has been brought up many, many times- but no one seemed to ever pay it any mind.

If anyone is angry about this, then they need to stop using Paypal, and find another service that lets you do it free. (Which doesn't exist, lol).
The reason the fee is charged is so that you can give back to them for providing you a service.
It is fair.

Yeah, its hard to uphold this rule sometimes. Only because some will add it to their prices without any mention of it. And from what I read, if they do that its allowed. Since the seller isn't "informing" the buyer they are paying the fees.

Isn't allowed? D: Because it's a bit confusing to me @.@ So, surcharge = transaction fees? Then what is handling fees?? Isn't handling fees = transaction fees too??

Basically the surcharge fee is the fee that you pay when people send you money via paypal. Shipping and handling is a whole different area. We are talking about like someone having an item for $5. When you pay via Paypal they charged the seller .45 and the seller only sees $4.55 of that money that is sent to them. Now some people either add the fee to their total so they have the item priced at $5.45 or they tell the buyer they must pay the .45 when they are not suppose to. That's what I am talking about.

There's always Google checkout if people don't want to use Paypal. I haven't tried the service out though, but I know some sites use it.

This rule has always been there? At least as long as I've used paypal.

On personal payments there is no fee, but on purchase payments the seller pays the fee. HOWEVER if the buyer wishes, they can pay the fee, but the seller cannot TELL the buyer to do so. If the seller tells the buyer they must pay the fee, the buyer can go to paypal and report the seller. Usually though most buyers don't mind paying the fee, or you can just price your total higher.

Google checkout also has fees, but instead of charging per transaction with the transaction like paypal, they charge you a total amount at the end of the month or something I believe.

XD Yeah the rule has been there and if the buyer wants ot pay the fee, we can't stop them. This is mostly for sellers trying to either trick people into paying it or tell people to pay it.
