.com, .net, or other?

Discussion in 'Pet game management' started by Gabby, Jul 16, 2012.

  1. Back in the day, .com was a common domain extension used for hosts. Today, it is still one of the most preferred, but no longer as concentrated.

    I've been curious for quite some time to hear what VPL thinks - is there really a difference between .com or .net and how do you think it affects a game?

  2. Nowadays, I really don't think there's much of a difference which extension you decide to use. It's all about your branding and getting your site out there - such as, building links through the referral system, having your site optimized - such as, content explaining what the game is all about on the index, etc.

    But personally, I always try to get the .com of a domain if its available.
  3. I don't see how it makes a different, I judge the game, not the domain.
  4. I like the way .net sounds out loud, but a .com is way easier to find.
  5. Personally, I think it's best to stick with the more popular ones, and not dive in to things like "" and other confusing TLD's. But, this is the best way to do it:
  6. xD xD XD what if .com is taken? Then what would you say is the best alternative?
  7. Another major TLD like .net, and .org :p
  8. Yea, that's what I did - I went with .net :)

    Thank you!~ You think it makes much of a difference?
  9. Try to get all major domains and redirect it to the most popular one.
  10. Is there a major difference?
  11. I honestly don't see there being any difference, except how easy the domain URL may be to remember.

    For example, Overstock recently bought the domain o . co, which is very easy to remember, but makes no difference as to how you browse the site.

    { had to put spaces in the link, as I don't have 10 posts yet. cx }
  12. I prefer .net or .org... For our magazine we use .ca though because it's Canadian. :p

    When I do get the time to work full time on my pet site, it's going to be .org. ;3
