Discussion in 'Virtual Pets News' started by Rj, Jun 7, 2012.

  1. Major thanks to those who contributed funding towards the making of Meteora land map art - Kirsty (four times!), Speedie, Wonderrabbit, Drew, Pikabox!!!

The wonderful artist who made this art is Vermillion!

  3. Hold up...
Why isn't Icepets supporting itself? It has a cash shop, correct? Why aren't these funds should be going into the development of the game, and not just users having to "pay" to get new things on the site.

And also, in order to get new features on the site, users have to donate?

When was the last time, @ClawsClaws or @MichaelMichael actually took money "made" from the "cash shop" to introduce new things, and such? Are items paid by users as well? How about new pets?

And also, do the users pay the server bill every month as well?(no donations, server goes off???)

  6. @cpvrcpvr I have always wondered the same thing. It seems that users need to pay for new pets, new pet colors, new maps, new avatars and new items. I find that very unattractive in a website. I understand custom items and such being an extra feature but when they become the main means of getting new content it is kind of a major turn off.

  7. Users can request new pet colors which they fund and receive in return.
Sometimes I make new pets when I have the time or when there is a special event. For items, there is a request a custom item but request pets are more popular. We are making items all the time without user funding.

The monthly cost for the site is payed for by Claws and everything extra. Also we try to keep the site free of annoying off-site advertisements. Money also comes from Gold Accounts.

  8. IcePets is my business, and my business does make a profit as any healthy business should. There is a fundraiser section of the site that allows players to provide funds for things they want immediately developed, aside from that all developments are funded by gold account and virtual item sales.

  9. Besides that, so answer this, unless users "fund" new features, they're not coming out, right?

  10. @ClawsClaws, I think its a stange but clever idea of creating money in your business. Thanks for explaining this. :)
I'm hoping to fund something meself too when I have the money. =D

  11. I can answer that:
and the answer is no, not all the time. There are events and special cases where the Icepets team will provide petwork and such that the users haven't funded.

  12. The answer is in my previous post. Aside from what users request and pay for in the fundraiser section of the site, all developments are paid for by gold account and virtual item sales.

  13. Right, so this new map, was funded strictly by the users(because the users wanted a new map), and not from the cash shop funds?

    Thanks for the answer.

@cpvrcpvr Icepets has a thermometer that helps fund a specific map. For example it will say "We are now saving up for Dungville!" and once the thermometer reaches the goal point users get Dungville added.

  15. Best to get it straight from the source.

  16. Yea this new map is something the users wanted on the fundraiser page, unfortunately the amount wasn't enough to cover all costs associated with it but all costs over that was covered from the virtual item and gold account sales.

  17. Users don't need to pay for new content to be developed, but we do make that option available. We're always developing new content, but when a player pays for something they specifically want to see on site we make it a priority to complete their request.

  18. Ahh thanks for clearing it up. =) I can't say I like this system too much, but it is your site and I shall respect that. Best of wishes to you and your site!

  19. That's quite an interesting concept though - a cash shop, and a funding page. I don't think I've ever seen a pet site do it like that.

  20. I think it's a great idea. You always have users wishing this or that pet was released in some colour or another, and now they can actually have that happen through funding the process! Once a user has funded a certain project, let's says a pet colour, how long is the waiting period for it to be completed? A week?
