    Virtual Pets

Welcome to the Virtual Pet list forum!
We're a virtual pets and sim games community and the largest forum in our industry. Game owners can use our forum to their advatange by promoting/advertising their games to our users and receive feedback/reviews from those members that try their games out. We support developers of all kinds from RPG developers, sim game developers to virtual pet site developers. We want to see more games in our industry come across more success and that's why we try our best to release as many guides/articles regarding online gaming development as we can.
We're unlike other forums in our industry because we try our best to be there for our users no matter what and give them advice whenever they ask for it. Running an online game isn't an easy task, but with our many resources that we've built since 2011, you'll learn a lot from our online community. Please don't ever be afraid to ask a question on the forums because if you never ask, then you'll never receive an answer to your question and you can only improve by asking other users for help/advice.
We have a lot of virtual pet sites' owners and sim game owners that are very frequent visitors on our online community. Along with artists, writers and programmers that come here looking for work and games to work for. Our members who are artists sell art in our art marketplace and programmers are allowed to sell their scripts in the programming marketplace. We also allow game owners to sell their game in our general marketplace
In early 2011, we decided to make a comeback to the internet because in 2010, we had a minor setback and we had to re-launch without any content, but with a lot of time, patience, hardwork and effort, we've managed to rebuild the Virtual pet list community into something better than it was before. We actually registered our domain name on November 4th, 2004, but we were only a directory then and all we had was a basic comments system for users to post things on their favorite games..
So, what are you waiting for, why don't you join today? If you have any problems figuring out our security code, then here's a hint, it has millions upon users and has been around since 1997.
Our list of virtual pet sites and directory of sim games have a lot of different games listed, so we're pretty sure that you may find some games that suits your needs as a player of sim games or virtual pet sites.
If you're still curious about a certain game that you'd like to play, then please check out some of our game reviews that were written by some of our great contributors and our interviews with respective virtual pet site owners, sim game owners, artists, writers and programmers that have worked in this industry.

I'm in love with them, that shark pet especially <3333

Will they come in different colors, or are they just given one default color?

    It is gorgeous isn't it?

Yup, we have a 'default' color, and then red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white, black and brown.

Not sure which 'color' that Jettan is whether its the default or one of the available colors, but the 'Wolfie' shown here is the 'purple' one.

The big difference in art here is a big turn-off. Like, they aren't even shaded in the same style, let alone drawn to look like they match.

They've both been done to meet what is written on our staff forums.

And how can they be drawn to match? Their two separate species their not going to match.

You might post these on the forums for the site as well maybe?
And it's great to see these, to now be able to see the style of how to try and shade for the others doing pets. ^_^

@SpunkiSpirou - When you look at successful petsites all the art style is the same even if it's different species. These pets look like they belong to two different sites.

    The shark thing:
    • Thick lines
    • Smooth shading, you can't really see any determined shading lines
    • The coloring is smoother and fades into the other colors
    • It's generally more professional looking

    Wolf
    • Thin lines
    • Shading is very obvious and dark
    • Coloring doesn't fade into each other at all
    • Looks less professional alltogether.

    @Kiara
Even if the art looks a bit different, I don't think that it's fair to say that the wolfie looks unprofessional. Or did you mean compared to the style? Either way I don't think that's an appropriate word.
There really wasn't an exact style said for the site yet, and it's possible that these artists were working at the same time.

Aim of the art style? Semi-realistic.
And definitely there are two styles going on there.
idk. I guess eventually we'll work with a uniform art style.

Also, what are the chances that the images haven't been resized to what we'll see on the site?

@Pepper-Head - I personally don't think the wolf is up to par for what you'd want on your petsite if you were looking for it to be serious. It looks more like a personal art picture then a cleaned up petsite picture.

And... What are the chances that it might be something set aside for revamps?
    ... Well. Just saying. >_>;

I think the wolf looks nice. I don't think it looks unprofessional just because it's coloured a little more simply than what other pet sites do. It's drawn well and I think that if all pets were in the uniform style, that's how the site would come across as serious and professional.

She means the shading style. At first thought you can think, oh this pet here has smooth skin and this pet has fur; thus the texture is obviously going to be different. I think that's what you meant. It's quite easy to stay in either "cell shade" or "soft shade" and still stay true to the animal's texture.

Like here's a penguin from subeta, who has feathers. A ferret who has fur. And a dinosaur who has smooth reptilian skin. They're all still cell shaded and are all in the same "style" of drawing. The advantage of that is that the players feel comfortable on the site, and off site anyone can identify which site the art belongs to.

The shark is more fitting to what it wanted, from what i under stood. But, i think both the pictures are great honestly. I think it might even be nice to have maybe two styles of art for pets, instead of having to deal with one set style like it is on many sites out there. If maybe we can do both, it might let us do more, instead of limiting us to one thing for pets. But, that's just how i look at it. I really love both styles.
