Is the SIMS game possibly a little bit racist?

Discussion in 'Talk Gaming' started by SpunkiSpirou, Jun 29, 2012.

  1. This is just something really bizzare I'm finding about the SIMS on PC.

Ok, so the first thing is the game I play is 'The SIMS Deluxe Edition' which is this one:

So now I've got the computer in a location where I can actually get to it easily and play on it without having to shift half of the world from in front of it, I've gone back to playing on this game a lot, generally about an hour a night.

And as it is SIMS can't live as threesomes, which I found out when I tried to do that with 3 of them, it failed. So now I'm trying to get one of these SIMS to move out and in with another SIM.

All my SIMS are white, cause their based off real life people such as my family and then the rest are like video-game related, so their all white.

So now I've made a black (male) SIM that I've made so the white (female) SIM caught in the 3 person house, can now move out.

So they meet get to family friend status, she goes back home, next day she comes out again (phone - invite over) and they both get up to 100% and with the heart, so now their both in love with each other. She goes home, next day, day #3 and she comes over again, so their in love etc so it should give the option of 'kiss' or 'propose' but the closest thing is only 'hug'. So day #4 and the black SIM makes her a meal, watches TV etc, but still the most he can do with the white SIM is 'hug'.

So then I made a test white male SIM (called test 1) and he meets the same white female SIM, and becomes family friend on day #1. On day #2 they then become 100% and with the heart, so now she's in love with this SIM as well. Day #3 and when they greet they kiss each other (but when she greets the black one they only hug), and this white SIM has the ability to kiss her and propose to her.

So my question is; why won't the game give the option for the black male to KISS/PROPOSE to the white female but it will give those options for the white male?

Also, normally I would kill the SIM to remove it from the house but this one has like nearly all her skill points filled so I don't want to kill her.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Do they perhaps have a relationship already initiated? Such as family relations?? That's the only thing I could think of.

  3. I don't remember the complexity of the original Sims but I'm gonna guess it was kind of there. In the Sims 2 and Sims 3 there's a kind of Chemistry thing which bases relationships/friendships on things like star signs, likes, dislikes, etc etc. It could be possible that the black and white sims don't get along based on this whereas the two white sims get along better. I really don't think that EA would be that openly racist, nor would they really bother with the extra coding to make it that way :p

  4. That's not racist, it's how the personalities are. Depending on what personality you gave your sim will determine how he feels about relationships and how fast he wants to move.

  5. @ShadowShadow @AbbeyAbbey @DylDyl
The SIM called 'test 1' has no personality at all, I left all those empty, and the female white SIM has no relationship in the 3 SIM family she is in at the moment, she hates the pair of them.

  6. I've never played the game but I doubt it's "racist". I'd like to get Sims 3 tho. :)

  7. Maybe just a glitch? It is the first version, after all :)

  8. Is it possible you are a little bit crazy? The game is not racist, I laughed when I seen this thread.

  9. Sometimes thing like that just happen.
I have the sims 3 and ocasionally I have a really hard time getting certain sims to kiss or start relationships, no matter what color skin they have..

  10. Sometimes sims just like being butt heads and refuse to cooperate (even though you are in control of their lives...). XP

Maybe try that stuff as the girl instead.

  11. Maybe 'racist' was the wrong word, but I thought that was what you used when whites hate blacks.

Also its the first time I've ever made a black SIM.
@ShadowShadow I think this game came out a little later than the original, cause the original was just called 'The SIMS' but this one is 'The SIMS Deluxe Edition' - cause The SIMS was no longer available at the time when I went to buy it.

  12. The only people that hate blacks is the ku klucks klan - at least that's what I see these days. Mexicans, whites, and blacks all get along in my city, so you rarely see racism these days, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Then in the prison system, you have different gangs for each race - and they fight one another all the time - unless there's a truce in place between the leaders.

  13. To be honest, unless the actual SIM display says "This sim doesn't like this sim because he's black" you can't really attach racism to that game.. sim attraction is based on a lot of things and I doubt a title like The Sims would actually include race as one of those factors >_<

  14. Hmm. Do the newer SIM games contain various races in it? I've never played the SIMS but my girlfriend does sometimes.

  15. Can this thread be deleted, it's really stupid...lol

Discrimination is everywhere, people aren't as open about their racist beliefs because luckily it's now considered wrong, but discriminatory attitudes still flourish. Whether they be homophobia, racism, antisemitism, anti-immigration, sexism, etc. One thing I like better about the US than SA is if someone is racist there, they aren't at all ashamed or feel they might be wrong about it, it's quite disgusting. :(

  16. My mate said something about Klu Klux Klan being in her area a while back, I thought they were something from the 60s and they weren't around anymore. They look like ghosts with pointy hats and carrying torches with them right? Like Peter Griffin on that FG ep with the black dude.

  17. Sadly, yes they are still around and yes that's how they look. I live in the south and the KKK has rallies sometimes.

  18. They were trying to get their own highway somewhere as well and it was rejected. Did you hear about that?

  19. The Sims 3 pretty much lets you choose from a color panel which color you want your sim to be. I think you can even go as far as making them pale green or purple, etc. There's a *huge* amount of customization options in those games. Even TS2 was pretty good for that. There's also the option of being able to download and install extra game content, so instead of having the base hair/facial detail options, you could have pink hair and bug eyes.

As for races, you can completely adjust eyes, nose, mouth, skin color, hair color/style etc - so if you wanted to you could make your character look black, caucasian, oriental, arabic, etc etc.
