I know these posts pop up every now and then, but I'd like to make my own as I'm looking to purchase an established site. I am experienced in PHP, MySQL and Javascript and have worked as a freelance webdesigner for clients such as RiversRunRed and would be interested in purchasing a site that I can further work on and develop. I also have ongoing income for new art, pets, items etc..

My budget is in the area of $300-$700, so I'm obviously not looking for a site with 100k members and 4000 items. I'm mainly tossing this post up to see if there are any owners out there who have lost interest or lack the time required to further develop their sites.

You can PM me here with any questions you have.

Good luck trying to find a pet site for this price. You'd be better off creating one of your own, and using that money to pay for art and such.

You would be best off building your own site because the quality of coding and database structure on many of the sites you will find are just atrocious, to be blunt. You would essentially be paying money to inherit a lot of headaches, glitches, and unexpected issues. Not to mention if an owner is planning to sell off a site, it's probably more than just a lack of interest. There could be user issues and staff disagreements, along with all those fun office politics many encounter on a daily basis. So not only would you have to deal with bad coding, but also public relations.

Starting a new site allows you to make good choices right from the beginning, and you will eliminate any negative stigma and leftover sentiments that inevitably comes with a change of ownership. Who knows what dark secrets the previous owner is suppressing when he/she sells the site to you.

Like cpvr said, since you are already saving money on programming, it would be prudent to instead spend them on art.

    Just being frugal.

I figured it would be cheaper to purchase a site, with a full set of art then it would be to commission a full set of art. I'm working on my own right now actually, have some very unique features and what not. The problem is, anticipating 30 pets, ~400 items, maps etc.. 30 pets alone would be $300-$600, 400 items is another $800-$1200. It adds up rather quickly.

Besides, purchasing a dead/dying pet site and breathing new life into it (art, unique features, contests etc) would make the fans of that site very happy.
