Marapets: Dead. Server errors everywhere.

Discussion in 'Virtual Pets News' started by Jammybee, Jul 16, 2012.

  1. Thoughts on this?

I think mara has the worst track record for crashing and server errors.

:1: Mara-sites have been down for weeks now.
:2: Blogs have been very glitchy.
:3: Everywhere is server errors and nothing works.

Sigh, oh well, hey everyone xD

  2. I know images were down when I was checking out the site earlier.
  3. Yeah, all recent images were part of a server breakdown so won't show ._.
  4. They're using oracle for the databases, I'm not sure how they tie in all the servers though. They're probably not using a cloud though. These errors happen a lot though. One server proofs, there goes the rest of them. When did this errors start occuring? over the weekend or? @JammybeeJammybee

  5. umm no mara does not have worst crashing record lol.
subeta was crashing so many times like a year ago
  6. It's been quite stable, this is the first crash in what about a year or two?
  7. All sites go down o_O; Doesn't mean they're dead...
  8. Mara isn't dead, just the servers aren't working. Last I heard, Ian was working on them.
If anything, Mara needs do be worked on with the servers to get things back up and running.
  9. mara has been the one of the fastest loading site from beginning.
  10. When did you start playing Marapets? They had lag problems for about year or two after they opened, up until they moved to oracle for their database, and upgraded their servers to handle 3k online without lag.
  11. 2006. i mean i have played almost all website and mara was one of the fastest
  12. Ya, from 2004 to 2006 ish when they were having those site issues. iN 2006, is when a lot of people started playing and referring their friends. How many users were online when you first joined if you can remember?
  13. no idea. i was newb back then. didnt really know what was vps. only thing i knew was train my pet and keep it fed/happy.
i acutlly got referraled from someone when i was playing neopets.
  14. What they use oracle for a database.

    omg. lol.

  15. Yup, they mentioned it in issue 11 of their editorial http://www.marapets.com/editorial.php?id=11
I see, that's always nice to be referred by someone.
  16. Last time I was on and it was getting loads of errors was when it was Xmas time, I was only on it to get the freebie shit anyway though.
  17. Wow, that is the most moronic thing I've ever heard in my life.

Also, I'm just going to say that it's probably not true. He probably looked up the most expensive software (And hardware) that he could, and said that is how much it cost to run Marapets. Not even Facebook uses Oracle, it's for seriously massive sites, and even then, is almost never really necessary.

  18. Well not quite true, Facebook is too big for Oracle (for it's non-relational data) and doesn't use it for the relational parts because it was grown in an ad-hoc and incremental manner without a clear project plan at the start. But yeah, most pet sites don't really need the support that Oracle involves.
  19. Has there been any updates on this? I talked to Ian and he said there was some server maintenance going on, but there hasn't been anything posted in the news, and I haven't checked the adult forum or anything. @Sid12192Sid12192 @SirkowskiiSirkowskii
@HituroHituro Facebook also uses a whole lot of memcache servers. I remember seeing an article about how their servers were set up. It's on my twitter somewhere because I retweeted it, but I forgot to favorite it.
