Teddy Cobs is a Semi-Realistic, HARPG game that is designed for 13+ year olds.
In this semi-realistic HARPG group, players can buy/sell, breed, bond with, draw, and write about their Teddy Cobs. While they offer some frameworks to help guide your gameplay - prompts, bonding, etc, the group is ultimately intended to be a sandbox for its users. What you do with your Teddy Cobs is up to you, whether you choose to focus on the functions offered by the site or use your Teddies on other platforms like Deviantart, Toyhouse, etc. This Lorekeeper site serves as a registry and hub for the breed/game, but the world is your oyster!The Szívelova, or "Teddy Cob," is a draft pony breed originating from the hills of Hungary. Their name loosely translates to "heart horse," named for their gentle and affectionate nature, though they are more commonly known by their English nickname. This nickname doubles as a nod to a genetic mutation found in some individuals, giving them rounded, shortened ears reminiscent of a teddy bear's. Standing between 10 and 14 hands tall, these hardy little ponies were originally bred as versatile family companions. They excel in a variety of disciplines, from driving to dressage or even more demanding pursuits like fox-hunting. They are especially well-suited for children and amateur riders (provided they're small enough not to squish them!). With strict studbook guidelines in place to preserve the breed’s quality, Teddy Cobs are steadily gaining popularity beyond Hungary, with dedicated breeders now dotted around the globe.
Known for their kind and eager-to-please nature, Teddy Cobs are intelligent, quick learners that are highly motivated by treats and praise. While they can have a mischievous streak, their playful antics are rarely troublesome, and their sweet disposition makes them impossible to stay mad at for long. Their signature habit of pressing their head against a person's chest to ask for affection—especially behind-the-ear scratches—is sure to win over even the most annoyed owner. Even Hungary’s semi-feral herds are known for their remarkable trust in humans, especially those who come bearing treats.
These semi-feral herds are central to the Teddy Cob’s sale traditions. In the days before the ponies are driven to their winter stables, prospective buyers visit the pastures to claim their chosen pony by tying a colorful ribbon into its mane. These ribbons, adorned with bows and jingling bells, symbolize a buyer’s intention to purchase. When the herds are driven to the stables, the sound of bells chiming fills the air as the claimed ponies prepare to meet their new owners. If the ribbon remains by the time the herd arrives at the stables, the buyer finalizes the purchase; if not, the pony returns to the pastures until the next season. While this tradition remains a cultural hallmark in Hungary, smaller-scale adaptations have gained popularity in countries like the US and Canada. These include "pony ringing" events at fairs or rodeos, where children compete to halter a pony, tie a bell-ribbon in its mane, and ride or lead it through the gates at the other end of the arena. Additionally, breeders outside of Hungary often send their Teddy Cobs to new homes with a bell-ribbon tied in their manes to honor these traditions in their own small way.
