In a recent announcement by the owner of Santae, Cj has announced that he will be stepping down as the owner of Santae and will no longer be involved in any capacity.

Hi everyone,

I’m writing today to let you know that I will be stepping down in my position as the owner of Santae and will no longer be involved in any official capacity. I will not be doing development or site management moving forward.

This is not a decision I made lightly. I’ve poured my heart, soul, and personal finances into this project for many years. Santae has meant everything to me, and I truly tried my best, but I recognize that my best hasn’t always been enough.

To those I’ve hurt, intentionally or not, I want to sincerely apologize. Whether it’s a grudge held against me, a poor decision I’ve made, or my actions having unintended consequences, I am sorry. I acknowledge that I’ve acted impulsively at times, especially when my emotions got the best of me. My deep emotional and financial attachment to this project has sometimes clouded my judgment. I own that.

The truth is, I’ve heard the community, both the public and many of the staff loud and clear. I understand that my presence has become a source of division, and it’s time for me to step back completely.

I’ve reached out to someone I trust to take over the ownership role of Santae and am currently awaiting their response. I will not interfere, regardless of their decision.

Santae is not shutting down. Our server costs have been covered for the next year, I just paid them. However, the project still requires roughly $500(+/-)/month to cover ongoing AWS expenses where our code and assets are stored. Other monthly expenses include programming and artwork. When additional funds have been available, they’ve always gone toward marketing, not once have I paid myself.

I can no longer continue down this road of personal financial strain and emotional burnout. Everyone has made it clear that my time here needs to come to an end and so, this is my farewell.

Thank you to those who supported me, believed in me, and stood by Santae through the good and the hard. I’m endlessly grateful to you.

~CJ❤️
Edit: July 30th:
Hi @everyone Crumble here,

I wanted to let you know that Santae will be shutting down. Following CJ’s recent Discord announcement, no new owner has been found to take over the project, and CJ has decided he no longer wishes to continue running it.

At this time, there is no confirmed shutdown date as the server has been paid but when the AWS remains unpaid it will be taken down (I don't know when this is as I did not have access). I understand that many of you will have questions, but this is all the information I have right now. If anything changes, I’ll do my best to keep you updated.

If anyone is interested in purchasing Santae and continuing the project, please reach out via email to [email protected].

Thank you for being part of this community.

Who's the new owner Santae? What happened with CJ? It sounds like there was some negativity in the Santae community. I do have an account, but I get bored if there's no way for me to battle with my pets, or train them.

I strongly doubt that Santae would continue to exist beyond this. I don't seem to believe that anyone would be as creative as CJ in development of the virtual pet platform. Fingers crossed to see how Santae would navigate through this huge transition without getting swallowed.

"Some negativity" is a huge understatement.
I won't expand here, but I know snippets of what CJ has done, in the past and recently from various friends who have worked for him, and I would say this would (or hopefully) be the best way forward for Santae.

A new owner hasn't been announced yet. There's a topic that covers some of it here, Ember leaves Santae. A lot of things have sufficed in the past few months relating to Santae, but things should get better down the line.

It's been a tough situation to say the least for every party involved. Santae is a good game and it has a bright future ahead of it. Hopefully things work out for the best.

Santae Closing

I am surprised that CJ is stepping down but I wish the new team could sustain his legacy. Though it might not happen so easily. I do hope that things will be right for the future.

A new gofundme has been launched by Tybox with funds going towards former staff members of Santae:

Hi! I am Tybox a long time community member and former admin of Santae, a virtual pet site. Recently CJ, the owner of Santae Entertainment, has refused to pay his artists or developer. Between them, there are several thousand dollars they are owed, representing a significant financial burden.

Any money raised will go towards helping alleviate their financial distress. This does not excuse Santae Entertainment's obligation to pay them, it is just an attempt to help get some of what they are owed.

Here's a breakdown of the unpaid employees and what they are owed. This information is subject to change as I learn more- if you know of any others, please let me know:

Ember (Developer) - Owed $2,500
LatteDragon (Art Director) - Owed $781
Rusa (Artist)- Owed $260
Six (Artist) - Owed over $400
Rvvth (Artist) - Owed $100
Ggio (Artist) - Owed $290
Brillows (Artist) - Owed amount TBD, but they are also in need of funds for their pet's chemotherapy. It is around $200
Hop (Artist) - Owed $105

Any support, whether by donating or sharing this fundraiser, is greatly appreciated.
