What social media networks do you use to advertise your virtual pet site? Has it helped you gain new members?

Promoting your pet site and sim game on social media is a great way to attract and connect with new members.

It’s a good idea to use platforms like Tumblr, Reddit, Facebook, and Bluesky, as there are many gamers and users interested in pet games on these networks.

You can also promote on Twitter, but I’d recommend focusing more on Bluesky and Tumblr.

Using hashtags and actively engaging with other users through them is another effective way to draw in new users. The “pitchyagame” hashtag is especially useful for promoting your game. Be sure to include screenshots or videos.

I don't think I would pay to advertise a pet site, but rather promote it with posts and have it organically grow that way.

I think you'd get more out of people engaging with your posts and then them even posting it to spread it over an ad as they like the game.

However, @cpvr might have a paid comparison to see whether I'm right or wrong on which way works and hope to hear it before I potentially waste money.

I would think advertising on facebook would be the best place to get in some people, though it be far from cheap.

If a pet site owner is considering a paid advertising campaign, targeting users who are already fans of similar games like Neopets, Webkinz, Roblox, and Club Penguin could be a strong strategy. Neopets fan sites and forums often offer advertising slots, making them a prime place to attract your audience.

Gaming directories like TopWebGames and ApexWebGaming are also worth considering, as many players use these platforms to discover new games.

For broader reach, Reddit is a great option since you can target specific subreddits relevant to your niche. Combining this with Google Ads and Facebook campaigns would help maximize your audience.

That said, organic engagement remains key. Social media marketing, combined with posting on gaming forums to request feedback, can foster a sense of community and drive long-term results without heavy spending.

It's been a while since I created a Facebook ad. Can you target users this way?

It seems like it'd be against the ToS, as for instance, I could make a shoe and target people interested in Nike as opposed to "shoes".

Facebook has a system in place where you can target users based upon their interests, demographics, and hobbies. They actually help you target a certain audience now. It works quite well.
They also offer suggestions on how you can improve your ad campaign as well.

I have seen many virtual pet sites advertise on social media. And I know some people that have become members of virtual pet sites because they saw it being promoted on social media. I have also joined some virtual pet sites on social media too.

Social media advertisement may be a good method of reaching a specific kind of audience for a pet site. Facebook is a good choice as it provide different forms of targeting and advertisements that can be used to target the desired audience.

Xanje has been doing quite well with their approach to ads on social media, but it's been a while since I've seen any other pet sites advertised. Marapets did it a few years ago with Google adwords and Facebook ads.

I think I've seen a couple of Webkinz ads as well, but not too many. These days, it's a good idea to try to leverage small ad campaigns if possible and drive in members if regular social media posts aren't working too well. Even a boasted social media post can drive in new users.

Social media play a very big role in pets site advertisements. Micro influencers and ads can help in diverse ways too. You can also engage in Tiktok tutorials or posting on Facebook to market your pet sites.

There's absolutely nothing wrong in promoting your pet site on any social media sites as long as there's a possibility of getting new players from there. There are millions of people on different social media sites, use the opportunity to the benefits of your game.

Yes, we can make a very short and engaging posts that are targeted to the right audience on social media to promote our site. We can also use ads too.

That's right. The use of hashtags and memes make the best approach with social media as well. Sometimes you can also utilize gaming groups on sites like Facebook to drive in new users.

Certain groups allow self promotion and these should be used if you're able to use them. Another thing that works well is getting users to like and share your content as often as possible.

Are there really "established" influencers for browser games/virtual pet games? Or is it mostly just fan content with like a hundred followers or something? Idk if I've ever seen an influencer advertise a game in this genre

In this genre, there are no huge influencers like in mainstream games. It’s has smaller creators, but it could be an opportunity for someone like @cpvr to start a YouTube channel dedicated to virtual pets. Giving you a great idea🤣. Consider it and thank me later. 🤣

I don't have my own game but I come to know about various games through social media. I follow major game news sites on social media and I keep on eye on their content. I believe social media sites are best platforms to advertise pet games, or any other games

I've considered it, but I will politally have to decline. Thank you for the suggestion though!
