I think Neopets might have removed some pets from their originals.

Do you know any virtual pet sites that had pets you can no longer obtain?

Marapets has a few pets that are retired or restricted, especially the Decadal. This pet is typically re-released every couple of years through account upgrades. The Decadal often sells for over 100 million Marapoints.

Their Vixen pet is also restricted, along with the Vlad pet.

Flight Rising also has a few retired dragons, such as those released exclusively during their Kickstarter campaign. This includes certain colors for the Coatl and Imperial breeds, as well as special anniversary and event dragons. Additionally, older Generation 1 dragons are considered retired due to their rarity.

I assume if a site goes long enough, it will amass enough pets that it will need to cycle them out for newer pets. Even Pokemon kind of does this.

Indeed, some of the original pets have been retired at Neopets. Likewise Subeta too. It has a list of retired pets that cannot be bought. There is also a section on Marapets retired pets that may not be in existence anymore.

I have seen some pets available for trade from other users on Marapets that has been removed from the main game. One can't obtain such pets from the listings on the main game. You can only obtain them from users who had been on the site for ten years.

I think the pet site with retired pets just want to make their site special and make those retired pets a rare item. Some older sites used to retire pets to make them rare. It was always a mix of excitement and frustration. 😂 Like, you finally decide you want a pet, and boom, it’s gone forever. I don’t mind the idea though, it gives collectors something to chase. But I hope sites that do it also give new players a chance to get them through events or something. It’s sad when cool pets become impossible to own.
