Do you support social media censorship?

The government of my country once made it impossible for a lot of social media users in my country to be able to use certain words when making use of some social media platforms. At a point, you can't connect to Twitter without making use of VPN. Do you support such censorship moves by governments?

I think there should be some moderation, but the moderation on Facebook is a joke IMO. I've seen too many posts that aren't harmful or break any rules get flagged and people's accounts get suspended.

I am completely against government censorship on any platform. However, if private social media wants to censor itself, I really do not care as that is their right as the owners. I feel like users need to accept that Facebook and other sites make their own terms and if they don't like them... the answer is to use a different service.

I do agree with the Facebook automated system is pretty bad. You can get a 3 day ban for an inoffensive post, and then try to appeal it. By the time they appeal it, your ban’s been lifted.

Some social media apps are censored due to country laws and regulations. I don't support the movements, but it's bound to happen due to the laws.

However, all social media sites have to comply to it or force shut downs and lawsuits from these countries. It's a sad reality, but it does happen.

Free speech and activism can go a long way, bringing about positive impacts. Because they don't want people to point fingers at them for their wrongdoings, they preferred to use rules and regulations to hold down the people.

The government of my country had to pass a bill on hate speech targeted at social media posts. The truth is that trying to censor social media won't work much as people can go anonymous to express anything they want.

Anonymously is doing the work for people and they are enjoying it as well. There's no way all the hate speech can stop abruptly no matter the bill passed on it.

There has to be transparency, everything must be done in moderation. Over censorship and unchecked content can spread harm. So, a balance between these two is crucial.

That is right because when you look at the spread of fake news, it only points out the issue that we are having in the world today where users are meant to believe news that is not real or legit.

There's no way I would support social media censorship because that's like taking away freedom of speech. But in one way or another, I think the government still controls the narrative out there.

I heard about this issue of Twitter censorship in Nigeria which was around 2021-22 after the EndSARS protest.

Social media censorship is wrong but sadly governments will never stop doing it.

That is right because when you look at the spread of fake news, it only points out the issue that we are having in the world today where users are meant to believe news that is not real or legit.

In terms of fake news, social media shouldn't allow it to fly as these things may throw people in a spiral and make them believe it.

It's something that needs more moderation and filters. However, with some news organization having a blue check on social media, it makes it a lot easier to filter out the real news from the fake.

Censorship is necessary in social media because we really need to stop the spread of fake news but that doesn't mean that we need to throw freedom of expression to the Bush. There must be a balance to ensure a smoother experience.

It is, but not when I'm posting content to my own pages, and it's telling it's spam because I posted a link. Reddit is notorious for removing links, if you don't have good karma even if the comments add value to the post.

It’s not reddit itself that removes links from specific subreddits, it is the moderators of said boards. If there’s rules involved that states “no self promotion”, their moderators will remove the links in a heart beat and possibly ban a user for it.

There’s certain subreddits that allow self promotion and others that don’t. They also make it easier for self promotion if you create your own subreddit and post your links there as nobody will remove them, unless you decide to do it.


However, as long as you get in touch with the moderators of the subreddits via mod mail, it’s possible that they’ll give you permission to promote your links. Every subreddit’s rules can be found right under their name by clicking “See more” that’s located under its description.

Every subreddit on Reddit functions as its own community and the moderators are the ones that control each subreddit. Generally speaking, the moderators were the ones that created the sub. Each subreddit has their own moderators and the same mods don’t manage every single subreddit as each one has their own set.

It's only on Instagram I've witnessed that happening to some of my posts down to causal posts like thanks. It's called spam.

When this happen, everybody is being extra careful not to say certain words to avoid being banned. That period, VPN really suffered in my hands because I don't like missing updates on Twitter.

I support censorship but the problem is that social media platforms sometimes flag or delete the content, and it is frustrating when it is not really clear why they are doing so. But it's still an attempt to filter the spam and ensure that users are safe.
