The use of AI generated subtitles in movies and TV shows is becoming a common thing in the movie industry. This is often used as a result of how AI can generate subtitles in minutes that usually take hours for manual transcription to be completed.

So, producers choose it in order to enable faster content release. Unfortunately, as a result of accuracy issues, the use of AI generated subtitles have been criticized by so many people.

Do you think AI generated subtitles will soon replace manual transcription of movie's subtitles?

I think not yet. People use sleng and if you are translating from English to some other language, let's say Chinese, you can't just go word for word. Okay, ChatGPT is pretty good at doing things but still it is not that good. I know because I've spoken with Thai people 😀

May be. It's too much work.
AI is always evolving and who knows... We might actually get accurate subtitles from AI in the near future.

Well, I do feel bad ....a bit... But technology is always evolving at a crazy pace.
We will have to adapt to it... Eventually.

VLC player offers AI subtitles. I've used it but some times, the subtitles doesn't sync well and the words are wrong. I don't like it which is why I don't think I'm going to use it again.

Yeah, I’ve had the same issue with AI subtitles being out of sync or missing slang. It ruins the flow when the words don’t match. To be fair, AI has gotten better, but I don’t think it can fully replace humans yet.

I don't know for any other person but when I watch a movie with AI subtitles, something always feels off for me. AI doesn't understand cultural nuances enough to be able to land the humor, sarcasm or slang the way it should land contextually and culturally. Need I talk about the errors in translations with AI subtitles. I don't think it is worth it.

Yeah, that's very correct. It's only VLC media player that you can be able to download AI generated subtitles. It's not available on MX player or other 3rd part players I've used.
