Over the past couple of months, I’ve seen a lot of different NFT/metaverse pet games that are in development or in the process of opening soon, and I think it’s time to have an open community discussion about them. There are also quite a few that are already open.

Are you interested in playing NFT/metaverse pet games, or not really?

What do you think is causing the sudden rise of NFT/metaverse pet games? Do you think playing NFT/metaverse pet games is a waste of time compared to playing browser based virtual pet games and mobile pet games?
 
I thought the NFT craze came and went but I guess these creators still think there's a market for them. I'm not really interested in playing any NFT game myself, even if the creatures look cool lol. Just not really my cup of tea.
 
I've never been a fan of NFT's. As a result of that, I don't have any interest in the NFT/metaverse pet games that are popping up in development lately. I'm not sure if I would play any of them.
 
Initially, I was curious about NFTs but will admit that I slowly moved away from the idea, much like a new toy at Christmas that you got tired of.

Those who are into NFTs I would say probably do not see it as a waste but for those of us who don't bother with them, we could easily see them as a waste of time.

If you compare the popularity of NFT's with now and how it used to be when it was launched, you will see it's fading away fast. Even with Bitcoin at $71k+ today, NFT's isn't regaining its former glory.

I think NFT Pet games are good. Most of these games allow users to monetize their activities, they can earn tokens NFTs and they can sell tokens and NFTs for real world cash. I am, not much aware about current scene but a couple of years ago they were really popular.
 
I have no interest in NFT games beyond the price of the NFTs themselves.

I have a couple ETH locked up in NFTs and didn't sell at 2 different peaks that were around 10x, kicking myself for that.
 
NFTS and cryptocurrency are scams that no indie game developer should ever try to get involved with. As an indie game developer myself, I refuse to play games that have NFTs, cryptocurrency, or AI-generated anything in them.

I’d honestly like to see this genre (NFT) disappear completely. Many of these projects exploit the virtual pets industry to create hype and attract users, which isn’t beneficial for the industry at all. These types of games don’t provide any real value.



For example, there was one project called Metapals a few months ago that even struck a deal with Teletubbies to offer NFTs. A lot of people bought into it, but now the project has completely vanished.




This tweet also sums up how their project was a scam.


WildBrain CPLG is moving the Teletubbies into a brand-new tech category. The licensing agency has signed a deal with Singapore’s MetaPals to start rolling out a range of “digital companions” based on the legacy preschool brand on April 20.

The company integrates AI and blockchain technology to give each “MetaPal” unique character traits, and their behavior can be personalized based on interactions with users.

MetaPals will launch 5,000 Teletubbies companions in the form of NFTs—1,100 for each of the four Tubbies and 600 for Noo-Noo the vacuum cleaner. Each mint is priced in the range of US$100 to US$200 and includes exclusive accessories.

“[We] enable the Teletubbies characters to evolve, interact and form unique bonds with users, embodying our vision of dynamic digital companionship,” says MetaPals CEO Max Giammario. It’s a strategy inspired by digital pets like Tamagotchi, and it also aligns well with a recent growth in demand for e-pets and interactive experiences.

Protocol Labs, Techstars, Tezos Foundation and BlueYard Capital have all provided financial backing for MetaPals, whose platform’s licensed characters also include Hello Kitty and Doraemon. The company says it currently has around 19,000 daily active users who have more than 208,000 interactions with its companions each day.
