Some games blend multiple genres. Some of these games that mix multiple genres are very popular where as some games fail to attract audience. Do you like the games that mix multiple genres? What are your favorite multiple genres games?
.

Different gameplay experiences appeal to me especially when video games merge multiple genres. They will present a unique gameplay experience.

I have zero issues with that as long as those are the games that gave me satisfaction. Having two gameplay cast into one is not a big deal for me. I will play the game if it interests me.

I enjoy games that mix multiple genres, as they often bring unique gameplay mechanics and fresh experiences. A well-executed genre blend can create something special, while a poorly executed one can feel unfocused or confusing.

Some of my favorite multi-genre games include:

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – It masterfully combines action-adventure, open-world exploration, and survival mechanics.
  • Borderlands series – A great mix of first-person shooter and RPG elements, with loot-driven progression.
  • Hades – A blend of roguelike, dungeon crawler, and fast-paced action combat with deep storytelling.
  • Mass Effect series – A mix of RPG, third-person shooter, and interactive storytelling with meaningful choices.
  • Dark Souls series – While primarily action RPGs, they incorporate elements of survival horror, platforming, and even puzzle-solving.
  • Persona 5 – A mix of turn-based RPG and life simulation, creating an immersive experience.
  • Yakuza series – It blends beat ‘em up combat, RPG progression, and open-world exploration with a deep, dramatic story.

I don't mind it as long as it all meshes well together. Sometimes they try to put things together and it don't pan out.

I love games that challenge the norm. Borderlands is an amazing balance between FPS and RPG. Can't get enough of it! The gameplay always addictive and exciting.

It’s interesting when games mix multiple genres as they can cater to multiple users without sticking to one main genre.

I think it’s a good idea as long as they execute the game right, especially since it can lead to a broader appeal and a bigger audience.

I really love games that try to fuse two, or more genres. Among the best of these would be the Mass Effect series. The other one is the Diablo series.

For people like me that loves games with suspense, multi games are much enjoyable for me. They are very hard to predict. The Legend of Zelda is one game that I have played over and over again. The thrill is that it is multi genre.

I think mixed-genre games can be great when the blend feels intentional.
They often create fresh experiences by combining strengths from different styles, like strategy with role-playing or action with survival. The risk is trying to do too much and ending up unfocused.

Gameplay fatigue was a common issue that was reported in games that used to be all about a single genre. That's eradicated with genre mashups. If you are tired of shooting, you can switch to building base etc.
