Gaming's Role In Education

Did you know games can help us learn? There are games out there and they can help in teaching math, science and history in a fun way. I’ve played a couple of puzzle games and they are quite educational.

Gaming has made learning exciting and interactive too. The other time, I was watching how a school used games to teach coding. It was hilarious.

I particularly fell in love with educational games. Science Adventure has really taught me about animals and their habitats. Educational games help me remember things much better.

Games have been helping us learn since the 90s, nothing new and seems to be getting more advanced.

The Oregon Trail is the only educational game that I can recall playing.

I don't think I retained much from it except that you can die of dysentery and flip a wagon in the river by trying to cross it.

There are lots of great educational games out there, but also lots of "edutainment" games that pretend they're education but don't really teach anything. It can be tricky for parents to tell which is which.

My favourite as a kid was zoombinis which really helped with improving logic skills.

That being said, there are also lots of games that aren't education ones that still help kids learn - text heavy story games can really help with reading and games with in-game economies can help with maths.

Educational games are simply the best because they make learning feel like playtime for me. For instance, Code Masters can be leverage to learn programming basics and that's quite impressive.

It's not all video games that are educational. It's why you have to be selective of the games that you're interested in playing if you want to learn from it.

I have actually learned a lot from the video games that I have played. I have learned how to plan from the many strategy games that I have played. One thing about learning while gaming is that it doesn't feel like you are learning something. It is progressive as you are having fun while you are learning.

Yeah exactly. You learn certain things without even realizing it. I’ve picked up a lot from games too. You get to learn problem solving, patience, even history from some strategy ones. It’s like learning on autopilot.
