Yes, I upgraded my account on Wajas.com before. From what I remember you get access to secret shops, a random amount of special currency every day and probably some other things I've forgotten now.

Yes, I’ve purchased account upgrades on Marapets before and a gold account on Subeta.
A gold account on Subeta comes with a shop autopricer, extra quests, decreased training time, extra inventory space, access to the gold account forum, the ability to beta test new features, a trophy for your profile, more clothing layers for your human avatar, and extra vending machine items. There are also additional benefits that come with the account.
The account upgrade on Marapets that I purchased included a stamp, a pet costume, and a limited edition potion, along with other in-game benefits.

I haven't but I have seen people upgrad their accounts on Marapets and Neopets. Some bought a VIP membership for exclusive items and priority access which Is cool!

I think the essence of account upgrades is to enhance the gaming experience and to gain certain advantages you wouldn't have access to with the regular account.

I’ve purchased a few account upgrades on Neopets in the past, mainly to access extra features like premium dailies and additional customization options for my pets. The perks were definitely worth it, especially since they made earning points and personalizing my account a lot more fun. Have you gotten any upgrades on your favorite pet sites?

Pretty much every petsite I have played, ever. Aywas, Neopets, Subeta, MisticPets( not really an account upgrade though there just cash shop items), Lioden, Wolvden, WolfPlay, PonyIsland.
Most of them had QoL features that made it easier for me to maintain my accounts and currency when I couldn't invest as much time and made it easy also for me to buy further cash-shop items, especially subeta account upgrades, to sell for the in game currencies in exchange. For some of the above sites and others, I still do this where allowed to make my life a little easier but I also now have go to people to inquire with if they have what I am looking for and what cash shop item they want to have less back and forth on values since RLC value to IGC can fluctuate a lot day to day.

I never purchased any upgrades on the sites that I played on, and would never implement a pay-to-play system as it favors those with money and creates a gaming inequity.
What I have done, though, was use the "donate" button on smaller games so that the devs could get some extra cash and use it how they like. No favoritism there either, which was good.

I think account upgrades could include features like increasing the pet size limit (if the pet site has a limit on the number of pets a user can have), an auto-pricer for user shops, shorter quest time limits, extra inventory space, additional daily quests (if there’s a limit), and the ability to beta test new features.
There could also be items within the account upgrades that boost your pet’s stats as well.
