Have you ever renamed your pet site?

I've renamed my sites multiple times back when I was trying to build my own virtual pet site. I just came up with names I liked better.

Have you ever renamed your virtual pet game?

I've only "renamed" it once.

It was on a sub-domain, so I used the prefix dot hosting company dot com as the first domain. It wasn't until months in that I switched to a .com domain.

Hosting was different then, and I had a good one that swapped it out for me because there wasn't any real good way of doing it except for manually doing it if you signed up under a sub-domain at the time.

I learned pretty early to not start a site, unless I check the name first. I won't even promote a site, unless I registrar the domain name.

It can be beneficial to grow a members for a pet site on temporary name though.

I don’t own a pet game, but I’ve never renamed VPL. I think the only site that went through a name change was Lurapets(rip). It was originally called Luraverse at one point.

Renaming a pet site looks like the owner doesn't have a clear idea of what they are doing. I can accept part change in the name but not a 100% change.

I haven't owned any pet site myself, so I haven't needed to rename anything. But I understand how changing names can be exciting when trying to find the perfect one. It’s always fun to find a name that really fits..

I don't have a pet site, so I don't ever had an experience in renaming it but I think it ultimately depends on the brand identity and the audience you want to connect with.

Most definately. There hasn't been that many pet sites over the years that have undergone a name change. Generally speaking, they keep the name and brand when they launch.'

Unless something happens and they decide the old name doesn't suit them anymore, but it has only happened once to my knowledge.

That's true! Most pet sites tend to stick with their original name. It's very rare to find any pet site that would change their name just like that. They need to preserve their brand identity as changing names would confuse the audience unless the new name connect better with the users.
