Have you ever turned down a writing job because you don't understand the niche?

There are times that we get writing gigs and we struggle to understand the niche. I have experienced that before.

Someone gave me a job to write about the core of python programming. I don't know anything about coding. I turned down the gig.

Have you ever turned down a writing gig because you don't understand anything about the niche? Which niche was that?

The Internet has made a lot of things better and that is beautiful. So, researching certain topics just needs one to be relaxed and focused on it as that will make things work better.

I can research certain niches and get a grasp of it to write on a topic within it. However, there are certain niches that I am a complete ignoramus and no amount of research can help me grasp it enough to write about it. One of such niches is coding.

Coding is a bit technical and one has to have a basic knowledge of how coding works before they can be able to create content on the niche.

If I'm not familiar with the niche and I don't have a feeling for it, I'm definately turning the job down.

I don't like creating for a topic that I don't have a full grasp of nor something that I know that I can provide actual value to it. I like writing for niches that I'm passionated about.

For someone like me, I don't like to deliver something that I am not sure is top class. I won't take up a writing gig on a niche that I am not sure I can grasp it enough to deliver the highest level of quality. And I don't like to struggle when I am writing too.

I've never turn down any job since I started working both online and offline. My only response is that I will ask for training and also research about the exact thing I needed to write about or work on.

Yes, I’ve turned down some writing gigs before. There was one about blockchain tech, and honestly, I didn’t even understand half of what the client wanted 😅. I tried to research, but the jargon was just too much. I’d rather reject a job than embarrass myself by writing rubbish. 🤣

I am a professional writer, I never turn down writing jobs because I don't understand the niche. I take the job, do a lot of research, read a lot and then begin writing.

Yes I have, it's hard for me to post on blogs or forums when it's a niche that I'm not familiar with. I wouldn't have too much time to research the niche, and create meaningful posts on the website.

It can be energy draining to do certain research when one doesn't have the time for such. So, your point to turn down some works is pretty valid.
