New GPUs, faster SSDs, and higher refresh rate monitors promise smoother gameplay. In practice, which hardware upgrades make the biggest difference for players? Are high-end specs necessary for most games, or mainly beneficial for competitive play?

I was using a gaming laptop, I upgraded to a gaming desktop and my gaming experience was on the other level

I think the most I've ever noticed over the years is the usage of SSD, games load really fast thanks to it.

Hardware upgrades can improve gaming by making visuals smoother, loading faster, and reducing lag. A better GPU, CPU, or more RAM can allow higher graphics settings, more complex simulations, and a generally more responsive, immersive, and enjoyable experience.
