How do you feel about virtual pet games that let your pet’s condition deteriorate until you return?

Some virtual pet site games have a pause feature when you leave the game for a while. All your progress with be as you left it until you return.

But some pet site games will have your situation/condition of your pet deteriorate when you leave.

How do you feel about playing such virtual pet games?
 
When I was younger and we had virtual pet sites like this, where the pet would deteriorate until you returned, it wouldn't bother me and I enjoyed being able to come back and take care of my pet. As I have gotten older though, I now realize just how these can make someone addicted to wanting to always be visiting their pet to make sure they are okay.

I guess if they do not deteriorate too fast and you have ample time to be away from the pet, it isn't too bad.

Honestly, I feel that they are forcing gamers to play the game even when the time isn't convenient for them. It's either play to maintain your pets and don't and pay for it. It's too more chore.

it's always enjoyable to play virtual pet games that has a pause feature. The reason is because it is less stressful especially when you are sure that your pets will be okay even when you're not actively playing.

Yes, I agree. Playing any game including virtual pet games that makes it a big chore you can't take some time off and come back to see the game the same way you left us asking too much from the players.

I also hold the same opinion but they should also be fun. It is annoying to play games that penalize your decision to take a break. In my opinion, it is more preferable to have those games which provide an ability to continue playing at any time you want.
 
Virtual pet games are supposed to simulate the real life of a pet as much as possible. In real life, your pet would deteriorate if you leave it for some time. That's also true for Virtual Pets. I feel those games with such a feature is properly simulated for a virtual pet game.
