How much freedom do you want in open-world games?

Some players enjoy complete freedom, while others prefer a little direction. Where do you find the balance between exploration and feeling completely lost?

I like to have some, but I don't want the options to be endless. I like a bit of direction to my game.

I like having plenty of freedom, but I still want some direction. It's fun to explore and do things at my own pace, but I also appreciate a strong main story or clear goals to keep me from feeling completely lost.
