Some players skip cutscenes, while others want deep narratives. Can too much story interrupt gameplay flow? What should be the balance between gameplay and storytelling for a game to be enjoyable?
I think there should be "just enough" narrative to establish context, provide motivation, and build emotional connection. How much is "just enough" depends the narrative itself but the main thing is it shouldn't disrupt the gameplay loop.
I believe gameplay-focused games don’t need a heavy story, but they do need enough context to make actions feel meaningful. A light narrative, world setting, or character motivation can enhance immersion without slowing things down.
Like all goods things in life, you need that right amount of balance of story and gameplay. I heard Dragon Quest 7 is like an hour of opening cut scenes which is a bit much.
