So, I am a big believer in the idea that your reputation preceeds you, especially in a community as small (in comparison to others) as our virtual pet game communities! When you are setting up a new site, there are some mistakes you can make quite easily that will put people off you as an owner, and therefore your site.

This is all a joke, so don't take it too seriously or take offense😁

So, without further ado, here is a handy list of what to do if you would like to put people off you and your game!
  • Ignore messages from people interested in helping out
Posted for help but don't think an applicant is quite your style? Or just gotten a message out of the blue from an interested party who'd like to get involved? Ignore that message! After all, you are much to busy being awesome and building your site to deal with anyone below your station. Right?
  • Ignore messages from people with questions about your game
Man, you already posted up the URL/previews/Facebook/Twitter/preforums on every other forum already! Can't these people read?! Don't even waste your time directing them to the right place. They'll find it themselves eventually.
  • Hire a big group of friends to be your mod team
Cliques will happen naturally anywhere, so why try fighting it? You and all your friends already know you are the coolest and most powerful people online ever, anyway, so it's time to make it official. Club together and run that site! Who cares if you look like a biased favouritist?
  • Hire someone to help you out, then drop them for someone better - and don't even tell them!
You hired someone who didn't charge much, or was willing to work for free, but then.. someone better came along. You don't need the little guy anymore! Don't bother asking them to do anymore work, or reply to their emails, or even use anything they already did... hey, it's a dog eat dog world, they'll deal with it.
  • Start selling accounts before you even have a log in script.. or a domain name!
Hey, the game won't happen if you don't have money, and where do we get money? Unsuspecting account buyers! They'll just have to take your word that you will actually get the site built and not spend their money on new shoes. Speaking of which.. lets go browse Ebay.
  • Act childish or rude on other sites and forums
Not all owners are mature and responsible all the time. You are only human, right? Besides, that thing you argued about was SUPER IMPORTANT TO YOU and you know that everyone else's opinions are wrong! Why should it affect the decisions you will make as a game owner?
  • Make game, sell game, make game, sell game, make game...
You'll stick with this one - promise!!
Do you guys have any more handy tips for putting people off your game? 😆
