Is there a social media platform you won't join no matter what?

I haven't seen any social media that I wouldn't play with but the blue tick feature of Twitter doesn't sit well with me and that it could be a turn off.

A lot of people have been complaining of the blue tick feature on Twitter. It doesn't sit well with a couple of persons who are looking to have a good time being on Twitter and I hope the decision is being looked into.

It's an annoying thing to do because what for? This was like that even before Elon Musk took over ownership of X. I get they need to make money but shorthanding users on post limit is cruel.

The character limit (140) was in place prior to Musk. However, requiring a higher post limit by paying for it was introduced by Musk, which I don’t agree with either. It’s cruel, especially when it comes to community building. The limit was increased to 280 back in 2017, but now subscribers get a character limit of 4k, with some tiers going up to 25k.


That subscription model didn’t exist under the previous ownership.


A lot of the new changes relating to subscriptions and posting limits were Musk’s doing. Twitter originally started as a short-form social media site (140 characters) as a mini microblogging site. It wasn’t designed to be anything more than that by Jack Dorsey, which is probably why he created Bluesky using the same foundation that Twitter was built on.

To be honest here, the X blue tick has been polarizing and generating different opinions. Some people see it as a status symbol that gives them recognition on the platform while others see it as unnecessary. It's even annoying to some people.

Elon Musk money mongering with Twitter/X is what's going give Bluesky more push to close up the gap on X's growth as quickly as possible. I expected Musk to try and profit from owning X but it's moving too crazy with it.

He feels he can do anything he wants with the Twittter project. I am keen to see the moves that the guys running Bluesky are going to make in order to catch up.
 
I would say Snapchat and Threads because I don't have an account on any of them. I feel like it's below my expectations and I find them less interesting.

Thread is a copy of the X app, and no matter the improvement that they make, I don't see myself joining them anytime soon. It is not just what is in my plans at all.

Threads is more like Instagram. It's even directly connected to Instagram because it's not possible to use Threads without having an Instagram account.

It will only be 1% out of 100% people on earth that can have an account on Thread. The reason why it will become visible is only because of Instagram because there's no way you can have a Thread account without Instagram.

It's a bit different. They don't use hashtags, but they use topics instead. It's actually a bit more active than Twitter as well. They also have a feeds system that's similar to Bluesky where you can pin your favorite topics to the top of your feed.

Are you serious? I will check if I have an account there and work on activating it to see how good that they have become. I didn't know that such an improvement has happened there.
 
There are lot of social media platforms on the internet right now but I prefer to go for the unique ones. I don't like associating with platforms that looks like a clone of the existing ones.

It might seem so to you but those guys know what they want and what they needed the blue tick to do. I think they might be using it for their own business or monetizing their account.

Some of the platforms offer faster support to those that have blue checks than regular accounts. Some of their content may also receive boasted views compared to regular accounts, which is a slight benefit over regular accounts.

Exactly. There are many advantage that can benefits them more than those that don't have the blue tick on their name. If the money is there, get it and enjoy the support.

That I do agree with, but I still prefer using social media as a regular user. These platforms already make more than enough through ads and our data, so I don’t feel the need to pay into it just to get a blue check. I’d rather support smaller platforms that actually need the growth, not billion-dollar giants like Meta. These companies may soon be worth trillions of dollars one day, but having the check just isn’t something I care about.

They've recently surpassed 320 million users as well. It won't be long until they surpass Twitter. Threads seem a lot more active as well. A lot of topics tend to get a lot of views compared to Twitter depending on the tone and context. I've also found that their users are a lot more friendly than Twitter. I've met a lot of nice people on there.

Have you found any interesting social media platforms lately? I know there's a new one called Fanbase that recently launched. I haven't joined yet though.

Fanbase isn't actually new. It have been out since 2018 which is 7 years in the making. It's still having about 500k+ downloads of the app for 7 years which isn't a good number for me.

I am certain that I would never join Threads. It is just a copycat of X. And there is no need to join it when I am already on X which is more popular and has more engagement. That battle with X was something Meta should not have even tried.

Ahh. Thank you for letting me know. Have you used it? I recently saw the owner talking about it on Threads, but that was the only time I heard about the app.
 
X because I've heard it's nothing more than a toxic cesspool.

I deleted all of my social media accounts, and I don't see myself going back to any of them now.

I would not likely become a TikTok member. I read that there are issues related to privacy, not to mention the addiction to the platform, and I do not think that it correlates with my values.

Well, as long as it doesn't correlate with your values, you shouldn't have to join it as it will be a total waste of time and also resources. The reason is because I joined Instagram some years ago and regret doing so because I've not had time to keep posting there daily.
 
Threads. There's too many like it, and I cant focus on growing my pages on a social media platform that's not as big as the others.
 
Now guess it would be facebook. I simply do not like the vibe there anymore, I would probably not go there regardless of whether there was something new or trending.

Sticking to one platform is generally the way to go. If you get traffic from one and it's driving in the most users, it's the best one for your site.

Some social media sites perform better than others. Threads has a lot of gamers, artists, programmers and creators on there compared to Twitter, so it's for that crowd. I don't see too many poker players on there.

I've also met some former online communities on there as well.

I understand you Tiktok and YouTube are already fun enough, so there is no need to divide your efforts at several platforms when you can make do with one.
