Microtransactions have generated a lot of arguments in the gaming landscape, but transparency is probably the most important thing to consider.

A lot of gamers see microtransactions as exploitative and some might see them as fair. I see cosmetics as a good one but Pay-to-win can be so exploitative.

Microtransactions bring up the problem of inequity in society. It allows the more well-off players to advance quicker in a game than those with a financial disadvantage. As video games are an escape from life, I wouldn't say I like the idea of microtransactions as everyone should start from an equal place.

From a business standpoint, I know why they exist, and can respect capitalism though.

Microtransactions are ruining modern gaming. You can hardly play any game or try to enjoy them without being prompted several times to purchase this or purchase that. In mobile games, a lot of the time, those transactions grant you an edge in the competition a lot of the time. I don't mind them if they're for purely cosmetic reasons and the player has the option to choose to purchase them.

Agreed.

Most developers now focus on building games that are mainly on micro transactions. It is now about making games where the rich enjoy it more than those who are not willing to spend in the game.

I don't like it, spending more money than a person has to for a game really sucks.

Microtransactions are only found in free to play video games. They are fair to me as long as they are not used in a too aggressive way by turning the game into pay to win.

I think that transparency and balance are very crucial for microtransactions. Also, games should avoid manipulative tactics because it could have a negative effect on the gameplay.

For me, I don't see anything wrong in microtransactions if they're clearly labeled as optional and if they are reasonably priced,. especially if they do not affect the gameplay.

It can be fair or not depending on however way we view it. Microtransactions are there for their own reason and when I start saying it's not fair because I couldn't afford it doesn't mean that they are also not fair to others. Guess some people see it in the fair side.

I don't mind microtransactions as long as they are not pay-to-win transactions. For example, I don't mind purchasing skins or maybe a bundle in a game.

I can understand where you are coming from, micro transactions are good if they do not influence the game. I still find buying cosmetic items acceptable, it’s just, fun. But if it gives you an edge, that’s not quite right to other players.

It is really frustrating. You are not going to enjoy a game that you would have enjoyed as a result of the fact that you won't spend a dime in the game. It is quite unfair to many who won't be able to afford paying to play those games.

I don't mind micro transactions in some games I play if I can earn the same rewards for free. If it gives a unfair advantage I usually won't play.

Yeah! Because microtransactions are unfair. They charge you additional cash to be able to make play the game. This is a frustration to players who cannot afford it. Yes, it’s like you are obliged to spend money to be able to play the game to the maximum.

I don't see micro transactions as being exploitative, especially for games that don't have an upfront initial purchase. That's how the game should generate some revenue to roll out updates and maintain the game. I am all out for micro-transactions on games, especially free to play games.

Well, you are correct. Anyone who is playing a game that they downloaded for free should be ready to shoulder the burden of watching ads. There are no two ways around it.

As long as the game isn't pay to win then micro transactions are okay. For example Pokemon Go is a free game and there are micro transactions but you don't need to purchase coins to buy items unless you can't go out and play.

Exactly! It's usually futile when you play pay to win games. I've quit playing so many games like that over the years and will never go back to them.

Microtransactions can be fair or unfair depending on how they’re designed. They’re fair when they focus on cosmetics, convenience, or optional content that doesn’t affect gameplay balance.
They become unfair when they slow down progress intentionally.

The only issue with micro transactions is when it turns a game to pay and win. If micro transactions is not making people have advantage to win the game over others who grind out, it is fine.

You cannot answer a question like this on one word. Whether it is fair or not depends on how it is being used. If you have to spend money just to level up, it is not fair, but if it is for cosmetic items which are completely optional, it is somewhat fair.

I think it is fair as long as you have set your own limit.
