OpenAI has finally found its stride as they’re now generating $10 billion in annual revenue. However, they made $5.5 billion less last year. OpenAI is now well on its way to generating more revenue on a yearly basis. Especially considering its growth and new features. There’s also 500 million users that currently use OpenAi’s services.
OpenAI says it recently hit $10 billion in annual recurring revenue, up from around $5.5 billion last year.
That figure includes revenue from the company’s consumer products, ChatGPT business products, and its API, an OpenAI spokesperson told CNBC. Currently, OpenAI is serving more than 500 million weekly active users and 3 million paying business customers.
The revenue milestone comes roughly two and a half years after OpenAI launched its popular chatbot platform, ChatGPT. The company is targeting $125 billion in revenue by 2029.
OpenAI is under some pressure to increase revenue quickly. The company burns billions of dollars each year hiring and recruiting talent to work on its AI products, and securing the necessary infrastructure to train and run AI systems. OpenAI has not disclosed its operating expenses or whether it is close to profitability.

It took a lot of investments in order for OpenAI to generate $10b in annual revenue with some claiming that they’re spent over $500 billion on their products.
However, reuters’ article stated that OpenAi isn’t positive just yet with their cash flow.
“
OpenAI is not expecting its cash flow to turn positive until 2029, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The San Francisco-based artificial intelligence bellwether is grappling with significant costs from chips, data centers and talent needed to develop cutting-edge AI systems, according to the report.”
“
By 2029, OpenAI expects its revenue will surpass $125 billion. Fueled by the strength of its paid AI software, OpenAI forecast to more than triple its revenue to $12.7 billion in 2025, the report said.
In September last year, Reuters reported that OpenAI was anticipating its revenue would surpass $11.6 billion in 2025, citing sources who were privy to the matter, adding that its revenue in 2024 would touch $3.7 billion, a figure corroborated by the Bloomberg report.
In more than two years since OpenAI rolled out its ChatGPT chatbot, it has introduced a bevvy of subscription offerings for consumers and businesses. In February, its paying business users crossed 2 million, more than double the number from its last update in September.”
