RubbleRousers is an upcoming browser based sim game that’ll feature cats, however, you’ll control a clowder of feral cats in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Inspired by such games as Flight Rising, Lioden, and Urban Dead, RubbleRousers aims to blend the survival and petsim genres into an exciting and fun new browser game.

Their developer describes the game as the following:

RubbleRousers is a hybrid petsite/survival game. Cats are going to die, and can die in a variety of ways, be it in combat, from accidents, from hunger, or from old age. In fact, a cat dying of old age is rather unlikely. Something else is more likely to kill them before that. It adds drama and intrigue to the game.

In addition, players of RubbleRousers will be limited to a certain number of cats in their clowder at any given time. If cats did not die of old age, eventually your den space would be entirely taken up by older cats who cannot provide for themselves. Eventually, they would run out of supplies and starve.

All your deceased cats will be visible in an "Ancestors" page, for which there will be no space limit. These cats will be preserved as how they were at their time of death, and you can still change their name/bio, as well as add or remove accessories.

They will have a combat system:

They will be launching a kickstarter tomorrow.

A promotional video has been released Rubblerousers.

There’s also a demo that showcases what the game will look like.

Rubble Rousers kickstarter campaign has raised a total of $2,769 from 60 backers thus far. Their funding goal is $15,000. There are 28 days left until their campaign ends. If they're unable to reach their funding goal, its owner is planning to run another campaign in the near future. There's still plenty of time left, so I'm hopeful that they'll be able to reach their funding goal.

They're also running a giveaway where users can receive a free custom cat tier, just for reposting their Tumblr posts and sharing campaign information on Twitter. There's a limit of two custom cat tiers per user.

RubbleRousers Kickstarter Postmortem

As you may have seen, the RubbleRousers Kickstarter unfortunately failed at around 50% of our goal. Let me start by saying thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to each and every person who made a pledge. It is amazing that we made it as far as we did.
I also want to assure you that this is not the end of the project, just a setback. More details below.
The goal of raising funds has always been for two reasons:
  1. To pay the wonderful artists in the community who are working on the project
  2. To pay for server hosting costs
At this point, since the game isn't live, the second point is largely irrelevant.
In the future, there will be another Kickstarter, potentially with a lower goal. For right now, I will continue working on the game in my own free time, just as I have been.
You might be wondering how you can help with the project, and help bring RubbleRousers to reality. If that is you, thank you! You're what's keeping this project alive.
Here's the main ways you can help with the project:
  1. Volunteer your time and skills. If you are willing to volunteer some time on the project, I'd love to hear from you. Please contact me if you have any of the following skills: Character (cat) art, item art, environment art, apparel art, graphic design, UI/UX design, frontend web dev (Angular-Bootstrap tech stack). This is a very low-obligation position, and you will never be pushed to contribute more time than you are able or willing to.
  2. Donate. Any donations received will be used to pay artists for asset creation. You are welcome to ask where your donation goes, and I can tell you exactly what asset(s) were made with your donation. Find us on Kofi.
  3. Offer your thoughts and opinions. We have a Discord server where I frequently post updates and, more importantly, seek feedback. We've had great discussions on things like how to best include gender and sexuality in the game in a respectful manner, and what kind of combat system to include. Note that members must be 16+ to encourage mature discussion.
Thank you all for reading. Now, I have to get back to coding :3

Oh, I tried backing this kickstarter! I wasn't aware they were still trying to go forwards. I hope it comes to fruition.
