My name is Trick Sparrow, long time petsimmer with over 20 years of experience in playing and writing. My early pet sims were Neopets, Pokemon, and Digimon. As I am in my 30's, I still actively play all those games. With Pokemon, I played all the main line games to a competitive level with Smogon/Showdown up until Shield/Sword. For Digimon, I'm vibrating eagerly for Time Strangers whenever it finally drops on Steam. And as I could never quit Neopets, I'm fully caught up with the Void Within plot.

Other pet sims I've played: Flight Rising, Kaylune, Exabyss, and Dappervolk.

As with my username, I have a character named Trick Sparrow in FFXIV on Dynamis Kraken and am fully entrenched in the RP community as with venues (host, bartender, bouncer, casino games dealer) and mercenary long forms and one-off both in-game and out-of-game. I was in multiple RP Free Companies (equivalent to in-gameclubs/guilds) and helped brainstorm ideas for their characters, scenarios, and arcs. My main character Trick is a pink furred Hrothgar with an edgy (read as: comically tragic) backstory, flopping in life-or-death missions just to keep his belly full. I even have a carrd website dedicated to my RP:

IRL, I professionally drag my feet in the healthcare industry and suffer daily existential crises. If I weren't in such dire need of money to survive in this capitalistic hellscape, I would scribble poems and hand deliver them to my friends. Writing and roleplaying are my real passions. I completed a first draft of a 140K word novel intended for publication and joined an in-person writing group of romance and thriller novelists. Some notable writing experience related to pet sites:

  • In Neopets, I have eighteen published short stories/articles in the Neopian Times across multiple lost accounts of forgotten emails and logins. In two different accounts I have the NT Star avatar and another, the NT Writer avatar, but not together because I firmly believed I was too "grown up" after graduating high school to keep my old account.
  • I was an official writer in Kaylune writing world blurbs, character bios, character dialogue, item descriptions, and event assets. If you ever played that pet site, I crafted the scenario and puzzles for the Tricky Time Trio event and the character bio/event plot for the sad tiny birb Harebell.
I came back to pet sites, hoping to get more involved with my roots and do more collaborative writing projects for fun. I'm really not in it for the money but if you throw me some spare change for a venti matcha green tea frappe with coconut milk and extra whip cream, I'll be doubly productive. What I'm truly after is the thrill of working with other people on content so many people could enjoy. The process is extraordinarily thrilling to me. If you need a writer to help build your world whether it's a game or RP or just want to chat, my inbox is open!

With unfounded energy and well wishes,
Trick Sparrow

P.S. My name is a reference to Final Fantasy IX, my all-time favorite game.

Among all those still standing, I'd say there is none. I'm very open to play new pet games and found the ones I currently play not meeting my need for character driven stories in pet sites. Neopets seem to have "everything" with the ongoing plot but the story feels hollow because of the broken pacing and lack of meaningful story-wide stakes for each individual character. Each character has a tragic backstory, but there is no urgency to grow or peril in failing their goals.

I liked Kaylune because it had a pseudo-dating functionality with the NPCs and you feel some sort of catharsis with all the time invested to meet and interact

Is there a current story driven petsite you'd think I'd like?

Hello !

It's cool you love story telling so much I've tried writing some lore and stuff I would say it's not my strongest skill. I don't think I've ever really got into a story driven pet game before, but it sounds like they had some interesting features. Nice to meet you and welcome😀

Yeah storytelling is a major aspect of gaming for me.

The biggest example is FFXIV. The game itself is PHENOMENAL with dungeons and bosses and content in general, but the players hold story so highly that the two least favorite expansions with the "weakest stories out of all of FFXIV but stronger than most of the gaming industry" were rated low despite having beloved excellent gameplay. For example Ivalice raids with Stormblood and all the bosses/difficult content of Dawntrail.

I think you might like Powerpets if you've never tried it before, or Runetails. Powerpets is quite similar to Neopets and is quite story-driven. There's a lot of lore built into the game. I'd also recommend Grophland. I still consider Neopets one of my favorite pet games, but it's been a while since I last played.

Cybura is also pretty neat. There's a heavy character system involved within the game. I also like Khimeros.

I used to be really into FFXIV and I have to agree I've never followed a game story so closely it was amazing I never did get to finish the story line but maybe someday I'll get back into it.
I emphatically recommend at least complete up to Endwalker because it explains everything built up from the previous expansions, especially who and what the menacing evil cloaked figures are. Made me cry. Made me hyped. Well worth the ride.

I love all your recommendations. I’ve heard of them from friends from time to time, especially Khimeros.

Time for a deep dive into great games.
